My hubby picked up a couple of these toys that are meant for rodents because they were on clearance, and I cannot tell what kind of wood they are. I am afraid to use them for toy parts in case it is a non safe wood. Can anyone tell by looking at it? It doesn't say anywhere what kind of wood, just that is is safe for rodents.

Thanks for any help anybody can give:)

Looking at the photo in the link, I'd say there are several different types of wood there. I have no clue what types though, sorry. :(

I also read that non toxic glue was used for assembly, and that sent off alarm bells.

That's what I was worried about. Maybe we could use them for the small birds who don't chew as a bridge? Do you think it would still be unsafe?

Personally, no, I wouldn't. :( I'd just be too afraid something unsafe "could" be ingested.

Hmmm...so does this mean I need to buy a rodent?lolol
I think I will actually just donate them to the animal shelter. They have guinea pigs and rabbits there who may enjoy it:)
Thank you for all your help!

Have you thought of contacting the supplier to ask for detailed info? I did that recently with a local supplier and when I explained the reason for my concern, they went out of their way to find exact manufacturing specs for me.

They do not use glue on it,i believe it is a general text they just use by all their rodent toys.

I finally got my answer back, and they use Fir for wood and EVA Melt Adhesive for glue. So I am donating these to the Humane Society for their rodents just to be safe:)
