Question about Oils

Hey there folks!

I'm pretty new to having birds in the house. I have two totally awesome and hyper Loverbird that we've named Apple and Blueberry, and I have a question regarding safety around them.

A while back I was told to use a topical anti-fungal solution on my nails to clean up some stuff, but this contains tea tree leaf oil, which I know to be very dangerous for birds. So not wanting to do anything that might harm them, I'm coming here for some advice.

My question is: would it be ok to use this oil (on myself) when outside, then stay there for say 15 min, and then return to the house afterwards? Or would that still pose a risk to the birds (I can smell the solution for quite a while after I've applied it/even through clothes).

For reference, this is what I have: https://www.naturprodukte-schwarz.d...el-gegen-nagelpilz-fuer-fuss-und-fingernaegel

The page is in German, but it does have tea tree oil in it (Melaleuca Alternifolia Leaf Oil) - if anyone is interesting, the full ingredients are on the second tab "Inhaltsstoffe"

(I'm not using this stuff right now as I really don't want to take risks until I'm fully aware of what it does/how bad it is).

Thanks in advance for all the help :)

I would consider getting a pill...I know that is bad for YOU, but I think that it might be better for your bird. Birds can absorb things through their feet and then there is the respiratory thing...
If there is a fungal issue, ask your doctor about what might work from a systemic point of view.

It will not get rid of the fungus anyway, it only says "hilfreich" aka "supportive" - so use something else to really clear it up.
Nailfungus is really hard to get rid of, so from the inside (of the human) out is the best solution -> take a pill if you can get (your doctor to prescribe you) one.

I wouldn’t. I don’t know what your birds do, but Bumble likes to preen my fingernails for me, so she would ingest it.

Good job of thinking about it!!
