Lil Chodi - 12 year old Male DYH Amazon
Gizmo - 19 year old Male DYH Amazon
Sasha - 9 year old CAG
I noticed that someone mentioned that Magna's turn more yellow as they get older. For those with Magna's have you noticed this to be true? Lil'Chodi went through his first molt with us this past month (he is 9, we've had him since January of this year) and I noticed that two feathers on his back are coming in with a good amount of yellow - which he did not have before.
He has a good amount of yellow on him, we are wondering if he will become more yellow over time.

Thanks

Yes - to an extent. :)

Magnas are said to become more colorful and more beautiful as they age. However, they will never be 'completely' yellow, but they can and will develop and grow more and more yellow and/or red feathers. :)

He should continue "adding" yellow little by little each molt throughout his life. How much, you'll never know for sure, but it will likely start spreading down his chest and back in patches:) He's beautiful now, imagine how he'll look in 20 years!

All of the YFA subspecies get more yellow as they age. DYHs , YNA, Pans,YCA, etc are members of that species. What is amazing ,is how yellow they all get when they reach their 40s. I have a 44yr nape who is starting to look like a dark billed DYH, LOL. I don't notice the change to yellow in species like OWA ,RLA or even BFA as much but they all "grey" a little as they age and in amazons yellow is grey aging.I also notice that amazons will have yellow feathers replace damaged/injured feathers. Like when a mate plucks feathers off their mate's head . Often the new feathers will be yellow instead of green. Sometimes that can lead to crazy yellow patterns in some zons.
