Parker male BF Amazon hatched 5/2/2012
Charlie unsexed BF Amazon hatched 1994?
Juno Female BH Caique Hatched 6-3-2013
so one of our friends has a yellow nape amazon named frido
as far as any of us know frido has never been sexed
so my question to you all is this, I am going to take frido to the vet for a check up and nail and beak trim and I am considering getting (him) sexed
Do females lay eggs at some point or can they go there whole life and never lay one?
Steve has had him for around 10 years and we think he is around 25-30
and is convinced that frido is a boy but my curiosity is getting the best of me now that I have permission to get him tested.
also I have only ever held him 3 times in the 7-8 years I have know him
any suggestions on how to make it as stress free as possible... Frido is flighted, and once he lets me hold him he is fine...i've never tried to touch him...just let him sit on me.
he will be in a carrier unless he is in the vet office room
on a side note he is on a seed diet... wondering how I can help get him on a better diet ...Steve says he won't eat anything else and I know that it would take time but since he isn't mine not sure how to approach the situation...I already make sure he has plenty of toys and I will be giving him Parkers cage once I get his new one...don't get me wrong Steve is a very good parront and takes great care of frido he just isn't as educated as he could be about some aspects of bird ownership
He is Parkers babysitter and if I thought for a second he wasn't a good parront I would never leave Parker with him

Do females lay eggs at some point or can they go there whole life and never lay one?

The answer is yes to both questions and also no to both questions.....and.....it is generally accepted that if the bird were to lay an egg, that that would be pretty conclusive proof.....would there be a consensus on that from the moderators ? ? ?

I ask that because I've been away from most news sources for several days and thought there may have been some developments that I could have missed in the interim.....

Hi parkersmom! Does he like peanuts in the shell? Because if he does, you could cut a hole in the shell, remove the peanut, and replace it with a pellet, such as a zupreem nut flavor. It might be a way for him to try them.

I'm voting boy too.

On the healthier diet, can you bring over some pellets or nutriberries and see if he takes one by hand. The only way Bosley will eat any type of Pellet these days is if he thinks its a treat.

Something you could try to start getting him to eat different things, too, would be to get the seeds you're supposed to sprout (and then sprout them of course). Sprouts are healthier than seeds, but they may be similar enough that he's more interested in trying them.

Another things that seems to work for Sunshine, if I'm eating it she's more interested in joining me. (She's young and was only used to the pellets at the pet store. I've been gradually adding variety but I've had to get creative!)

Ok, since no one else voted girl, I'm gonna say girl! Whatever he/she is, he's gorgeous!

That's a "boy" pose if i ever saw one, BUT you know my track record.

the vet wants 65 for the dna test so i'm not sure we are gonna do that right now the vet visit and beak and nail trim is more important...I also for got to mention that he is my godbird
I could always do the send away but i'm not comfortable pulling a feather

I wouldn't worry about it. That's a boy, what difference does it make?
