Quakers and Vinegar

Hey guys. Need some advice. My mom plans on pickling beets which requires her boiling vinegar. Keeta's (the quaker) cage is right outside the kitchen and boiled vinegar is very strong and I don't know if the fumes or smell will affect her. By the way, we do not use non-stick pans at all for any cooking. Should I move her for the day or will she be okay?

Hi there!

I wouldn't think boiling vinegar would be toxic as such (I could be wrong) but it smells very very strongly and when I do it, the dogs go outside of their own choice!

I would think just to be on the safe side, I'd move your birdy. Just shows a little respect for her delicate respitory system and any unpleasant feeling she may get from being unable to escape such a strong odour!

Hi Fredric, I agree with Von, though maybe not toxic it could be over powering, I know when I get a good wiff of vinegar it makes me caugh, I use it to clean and sterilize cages, but take them outside to do it, like Von said, better to be on the safe side

Very true! Thanks for the input guys! Chances are I'll put her in my room near the window and put a towel under the door so it doesn't get into my room!

You could also set up some fans to help remove the odor from the kitchen. I admire you for even thinking of this. It shows hoe much you care.
