Quaker quirks?

Dried peppers are ok no need to rehydrate. Tgey actually still retain vitamin A. But fresh is so much better.

We need to get you eating more veggies too! Lol so there us always some in the house

I can’t get a picture of it yet as he isn’t quite that comfy. I made a drawing which will hopefully get the point across. I’ll attach it.

I’m actually hoping to maybe pick up some frozen vegetable mixes and even give him that! Maybe I’ll grab some dried packs of pepper for now and then dehydrate some myself if he likes them. I think that’s a good rule for the fruit. I know fruits are very sugary and shouldn’t be over fed.

Oh no, I meant I’d buy fresh and then dehydrate, sorry! But I could also do fresh too.

Yes we do honestly! I’m hoping having it around might encourage me lol.

I haven’t either, it’s quite strange. He seems to be doing just fine now, like I said just some hesitation with bigger gaps- but I assume he’ll also overcome that when his primaries come back in. I’ll try and post an actual photo if I can snag one when he grabs me.

Snagged a couple, not great but maybe gives a better idea. You can see the extra toe in the first picture, and how twisted the outside right (left here) toe is twisted inwards. It’s sometimes does go backwards and grab the perch. The extra toe is entirely nonfunctional as far as I can tell.

Terry info on chop!

Personally I just give mine big chunks of fresh stuff every day , the got beaks, they like destruction lol I offer soaked and cooked beans, lentils, quinoa, sprouts occasionally, I bought a burd soak and serve mix that I offer as well. Occasionally boiled egg with some shell.

A rich and varied diet is great for their brain as well as lush radiant feathers abd healthy immune system

Interesting definitely extra toes.
When she trusts id try to un cross thst one toe. So she can maybe learn to use it. .
Both feet or just the one?

Ah, what a coincidence! He seems mostly ok, but like you said I am trying to go slow when walking with him because that foot moreso lays on your hand rather than clenches.

Oh, hmm, maybe I'll try that!
Also, you can give him a corner porch in his cage and big flat perches or ladders if he seems to need it. I put hooks on both ends of a ladder and used it for Lucy’s sleeping perch.

For sure.
He’s decently trustful, just a bit moody. I might be able to start putting that toe back more often and see if he can use it. Just the one foot, the left foot is entirely normal.

I was actually super happy- the shop staff made sure I wasn’t intending on breeding him specifically because of that. I’ve had a hard time finding a reputable place but I definitely feel good about this one.

I was thinking of doing that! I figured I’d do exactly that and put a flat one out for him to sleep on and rest that foot at night.

We had one member who also was getting a chick with extra toes. Mentioned might be inbreeding.

Regardless he is beautiful . Did they DNA the sex? Or jest guess?
Id love to see more pictures of just his baby cuteness! What color is the mutation?

Oh dear lord. The woman at the shop claimed they have one breeder and inbreeding wasn’t a concern from him, so I’m hoping that’s the case. I had two tiels that were inbred and both died extremely young. Yikes.

Thank you. Yes, he was DNA sexed and they tested for the general disease concerns like PBFD and psittacosis. I’ll share some more! His color is listed as Creamino on the sheet they gave me with his information.

Gorgeous!!!! He Looks mighty sweet!
I like knowing the sex of mine, that great you get to start out knowing you have a boy.

Quakers are wonderful, and not all will be territorial, my Quaker is 3 and he doesn't care if I put my hand in his cage, in fact my GCC cares more (only if I touch his precious perches!) My Quakers scream can be quite ear piercing and he can keep it up! He loves bamboo finger traps the most I think and would do anything for pomegranate or blueberries.
I would do almost anything for pomegranate or blueberries. But my favorite thing of all is Quaker Parakeet.
