Pumpkins first trip to Petco!! Good and bad...

Haha well i cant wait till i have white hair and can get away with it also!! :)

Ha ha ha....when you get our age you'll regret saying you can't wait for grey or white hair...I'm hitting 60 and still have ( some of my brown hair, rest is turning grey) ...But I still say what the heck I want and get away with it. But then I always been built like a defensive lion-backer for the NFL...My wife says "it's no wonder people don't talk back to you"...

I like white hair, i believe it is something you earn and should be respected. :)

Hahaha its funny you say that, Hawk. My fiance is built like that too. Hes very intimidating and i feel more comfortable talking to people like that when hes around to protect me. *giggle*

But yea maybe when it warms up we will just go to the park or something. Too bad the weather is bad, It was really fun taking him out and about with me. I just want him to be my best friend and go everywhere with me! Hes such a sweetheart it would be a shame to keep him locked up in the house and not share him with the world.

Should have told her the last one that looked at me that way, lost a finger to this one! At least you take your pet out for some socialization.

She's just a judgemental ....female dog word! :)

Hehe i guess you can make that convincing with an eclectus, but a green cheek could hardly take apart any limbs. :)

I found my first long white hair at 18 what a shocker that was. Up until I was in my late 30's I kept my hair very long, it is very curly when it's long and when I was about 32 my temples on both sides were pure white, looked like Frankenstein's bride I loved it and so did everyone else (lots of stares) then I started getting it every where.. oh well I earned them.:D

That's true, you do get respect with the grey hair. Funny My birds take turns in the spring and summer going for rides with me in the Big 4x4 truck. One time I took my Grey into the bar down the road one afternoon and first reply was...."This is an eating establishment, you can't bring birds in here."....I'm very intimidating for size, many say I resemble Mikey Rouke, so I says to bartender, " last I knew it was a drinking establishment, Ill have one beer and be on my way"... Of course with my size they don't ask me to leave, The bar tender then asked " anything for the bird??" ...."Naaaa he's fine, water in a glass if you will" There was only 2 other people in the bar and neither one eating....one gave me a glare, but said nothing. Ahhh ha ha.
But my birds love being outside, none of them are clipped, except for the Grey. He takes off and goes for a fly...usually only a quarter mile flight but always comes right back. That's why I had him clipped, I don't want the accident to happen. They have a 12 x 14 Screened and covered Gazebo with perches, toys, a running waterfall fountain and radio. They are happier than a mosquito on a nude beach out there.:green:

OHHH!! i REALLY want to get an outdoor aviary for pumpkin too. I want him to be able to fly as fast as he can and spend time outside with the wild birds(safely separated) and fly in the sun. I have a yard, just not THAT much money right now. :)

That is funny, we are just the opposite hubby is 6'3" 230 lbs and sweet as a kitten except when he is playing hockey, on the ice he is an animal! I must admit 19 years of marriage and it still turns me on to see him on the ice. I cheer when he is in the penalty box! Me I am 5'1'' 110 lbs and a pit-bull when I need to be! Anytime contractors or service people have screwed us over it's me that handles it without being crude I can usually make a person want to jump off a bridge and fix what needs to be fixed right NOW! "Just please don't make me have to have a conversation with that woman again" has been uttered more times than I can count. Be good to me, kind to others and animals and I will give you the shirt off my back though!:D

Haha my pit bull is a sweetheart, it's my tiny shih tzu you need to watch out for!! haha

Maybe I should stop dying my hair then :52:!!

It's dyed dark burgundy in a funky short style, but it's naturally black... I started getting a little white in maybe early 30's? I've kept it dyed since.
I've always had sort of a baby face, and always looked younger than my age. On top of that I've always dressed young, and have a very youthful personality even now in my late 40's (never had kids so never had to be "the adult" lol). It's part of who I am, and I'm comfortable with how I am, and why the heck shouldn't I be?!
Anyway, what has always made me angry:mad:, was I'd been called "kiddo" so many times in my 30's and even 40's  and I tell you, I am NOT bragging, it thoroughly offends me to no end !! I find it so extremely rude (and ridiculous). When the people saying it are usually my age or not much older, I'll call them out on it lol. Out of respect, I would NEVER call someone "kiddo" who looked over 12!!! Even many teens don't enjoy being called kids.

But FORTUNATELY I don't sound young when I talk, and depending on who I'm talking to I can probably garner respect with what I say and how I say it. If I'm around young people though, I'll let my guard down. It's just too darn bad people have to stereotype. :49: I usually don't say personal things, and I wasn't going to say all this, but it hit home too much not to!

People spend millions on creams and serums, hair dye, plastic surgery, etc. to look as young as possible... and then get less respect!! LOL :p

Who would bring their 'real' cage out anyway? Imagine if you had a grown macaw, bring the macaw with the massive cage into petco to look at some toys, should be fun!
Some people are just dumb, no need to dwell on it :)

Yeah, I've been going gray since college. The upside of it is that at 55 I'm a lot grayer but i still got a full head of hair. My brother and my brother-in-law are both substantially younger than me and have been practically bald for years.

The petco isn't real convenient to our house, but the PetSmart is full of snake oil (I was looking at one thing and note it was paradichlorobenzene. Hey these are just moth flakes. My avian vet confirms it's pointless). They also don't have the best cage environments. I guess the smaller birds that are turned over regularly are OK, but both PetSmarts I frequent have a conure in there that's apparently going to spend a good deal of his life in that abysmal environment (because your average PetSmart customer isn't going to spend $600 on a bird). The one in the closest store is real personable however.

I love burgundy hair and had my own funky haircut for 9 years before deciding to grow my hair out. I still miss my asymmetrical pixie every day lol. But burgundy looks bad when my blondis hair starts growing out I wish I had black hair sooooo bad.

Pumpkins cage would absolutely not fit in my car lol and he's just a green cheek... I can't even imagine a macaw cage hahaha that's just crazy.

My pet Co had large conure and quakers right now that have been there for three months and all of them have exactly one perch and one (really boring) toy. It is so sad. I almost want to buy them toys myself. :( poor birds

I went and complained today and got the 3 conures and the quaker another toy each!! Yay!

See what can happen when you speak your mind. :D No one has to swear or be truly nasty I for most of my life have been able to come up with what my husband calls "zingers" that get the point across pretty darn quick (unless the person is a complete moron) which has certainly happen a time or two.

Ha ha....good for you Labell....Sure your not my wife's sister? My wife is the same way, Had guys say " wow..your married to her?" They can't get a word in edgewise and she never swears, just sophisticated words if ya get under her skin or Like us had bad contractors as well. Boy they fixed the job right...ha ha ha. Heaven forbid anyone treats an animal, abuses one, or talks bad or down about an animal....You'll unleash the fiery of the depths.
She's an animal advocate for the wildlife federation and donates a couple grand a year to animal charities.

I agree with everything that's been said - sometimes you just have to speak your mind! I'm only 23, and quite frankly I'm often mistaken for a 15 year old until I've had to put people in their place. Though, at the age of 15 I actually sent a substitute teacher to the office because she was disrespecting students, and she was blacklisted in our school afterwards  . Buuuuut quite recently I had supper to meet my brother's in-laws, and they thought that I was the fourteen year old sister, and that my 14 year old sister was the 23 year old me... the pains of being the only short person in my entire family and having a major baby face (I feel your pains, Julie!). My brother on the other hand looks quite distinct, because at the age of 25 his pure black hair is sprinkled with lots of grey. He's thus been nicknamed Salt & Pepper :D

And to add on to the disease at pet stores, it's definitely a real thing. My boyfriend worked at Petland and they had a rose crowned conure come in. They thought it was the sweetest bird ever because it loved to snuggle into your neck the entire day and was quiet and gentle. Little did they know it was diseased, and two weeks after arriving it died. Afterwards EVERY bird in the store was not allowed out of their cages or to be touched, and until all were cleared they weren't being sold. It makes me very glad that we practiced safety in him always changing his clothes in the laundry room and showering before touching the birds when he got home. So I would be careful going to them with your birds unless you know they quarantine, test, and have health certificates for all birds upon arrival.

On the bright side, it's always good when people are generally aware that a bare budgie cage is too small for a conure - she didn't know it wasn't his full-time cage, so her grumpy muttering was really out of concern for your bird more than anything.

If anything like that happens again, smile and say "Oh, don't worry, it's just his travel cage! His regular cage is too big to carry around." It's friendly, it'll reassure her, and it'll remind her not to snap judge people.
