this is getting better and better!:D

I went into the computer room to medicate Puff, and after a moment of talking with her, I got her to hop up on my wrist, I had my camera with me ;)she sat there for at least a minute before she hopped off. I sat there talking to her, the whole time she was looking for a way out--but she never left my wrist.

I screamed for Sarah, she came in the room and she had Puff step up on her finger.
....what....again!???
and the best part is she DOESN'T BITE.

I am over the moon right now with excitement. I think this little one was hand tamed, the best part is I've always wanted a hand tamed budgie....I know it's early but hey, she doesn't even know us and she's stepping up now...and we've been grabbing her for 7 days to give her meds,,,we've given her plenty of opportunity *NOT* to trust us and she still stepped up today, WOW!

sorry, for all the posts about Puff, but I just had to share:D:D:D:

How wonderful! Great you had your camera with you too! Such a sweet budgie.

Don't be sorry for the posts! :) That is such great news that she is stepping up now! She will be your best buddy in no time! She is probably so happy that she is feeling better now! :)

Behavior wise, Puff is sounding more male, but those photos with flash really throw the colors off and make Puff look female! Unless you are extremely lucky to get a sweet female, Puff is probably male!

And wow! Every day, he looks better!!! Well done on all accounts!

I thought the same! She is as sweet as a male?? The lighting could be the culprit, but she could just be a grateful baby!!!

My femaleS was the sweetest. I don't think they're mutually exclusive! :)

Mayden, as have I as well... but generally speaking, the females can be nasty little birds!!!!

I'm still torn on gender, but am leaning towards male still! I see some things that could indicate female, so that's why I'm not definite on gender!

Why would you apologize for posting about Puff?? There is NOTHING better than a love story with a happy ending....... :D :D And Puff and your story is JUST that.

Wow..what a beautiful sweet little bird. It is always exciting when they step up for you and you know that trust is beginning. Just wow. I think I see tinges of blue/purple in the cere on the lower part of it. The little puff ball looks to be developing color of the male. Can I ask why you think Puff is female?

I am still waiting for my moment with Julio our adopted Noble macaw. I can tell he really enjoys interacting with me. He will take food from me now and will try anything I show him or that he sees me eating. He still will not step up for me inside his cage. I hope after I change out his cage to a playtop he will learn to go upside and be out. I think he would step up better for me if he was outside his cage.

I know with Julio it is baby steps..tiny little baby steps because I am not his favorite person. Of late he has been interacting with me more and enjoying my presence so I will take it as a step forward for us.

I adopted an English budgie who everybody thought was a male, sweet, compliant, liked head scritches.... I named 'him' Jasper. Then it happened. As Jasper started maturing, he realized he was a she. So with this new found revelation she went out and read the book on female budgies and their behaviors..... yup, sweetness no more. Gentleness and head scritches no more. Her highness is more like it! If you stick your hand in the woman cave, she will come eat you. That is a promise.

Thankfully she's pretty calm and less crabby when she's out of the cage on the playgym, taking a bath in the sink or snoozing on a favorite clothespin. Outside the whole by the book female budgie thing, she's still good company :)

I didn't know females were supposed to be mean. I thought my budgie (believed female) was nice..... :( :D

Females are know for being much more aggressive and territorial, especially budgies! My first budgie was a male and he was a total sweetheart, loved everybody. Jasper is uh...well I think she's not a budgie she's a 'beachy' :D

Females CAN be nice sure. But in general, they're a bit harder to tame.

My "girl" isn't that tame. She'll jump on my finger, but that's it. I don't care. I just let her be, it's enough for me.... (It's interesting that she seems "more" tame now that she's out with more budgies than she was when it was just her and one other inside)

well, that's a bit of a story, at first I thought she was a female, then male, then back to female ha ha. I see purple in the cere as well, but it's very pale. guess we will find out sometime :D

you know Rebecca, I don't get Safari to step up out of the cage, he just won't.
so I've been working with him outside the cage, with pretty good success.
at first I used a perch(I didn't want to get bit:eek:
Safari literally HATES PERCHES, hated them and wanted nothing to do with them, I guess I slowly wore him down, and now he steps up....yes I am in total shock, that was a very big hurdle. my next step is to get Safari to step up inside the cage....One day you will get Julio to do the same, I am sure of it!:D
