Protecting Bird Room Floor

I wonder if anyone has this problem and has suggestions:

Our birdroom floor is hardwood and in bad shape. Short of refinishing the floor or covering it with a rug or carpeting, is there a way to clean up the floor and have it look at least halfway decent?

We sweep it, vacuum it, and mop it, but it still is far from looking good.

Any ideas?

If your wood floor has lost is seal coat, i.e. water is drawn into the wood in place of beading-up on the surface, it needs to be fully refinished. If it still beads-up you can use a product called Polygurad, which can be purchased at most Wood Floor Seller /Installer /Refinishers.
