Did you slowly introduce them? You might want to try re-introducing them or giving the male a place to escape to when she gets like that, and adding another food and water bowl.

I agree with Sunshine. You can't really jump straight to breeding. Sadly, putting a male and female together doesn't guarantee that they'll mate... or even like each other for that matter. They're somewhat like people in that way.

Also, are they both living in the same cage? Or do you have the male visiting the female? And if they are living in the same cage, how big is it? Even if two eclectus did like each other, a lack of sufficient room could provoke fights over territory that could turn serious and even deadly.

Hi there, and welcome to the forum. :)

Do you have experience breeding birds/raising babies???

I had to look up to see what type of Eclectus you have, but you never mentioned which sub species you have. Your female is 5, so "theoretically" she could be ready for breeding. Your male is 3.5. Females mature quicker than males, AND they are "in charge" in the relationship.

If your male is intimidated by the female, please be careful if you house them together. A frustrated or angry girl can do quite some damage to an unsuspecting, timid male. And she certainly won't win him over by bullying him around - on the contrary.

So, we need a bit more information here.

1. What sub species of Eclectus do you have?
2. How are they housed?
3. What diet are they on?
4. Do you have experience breeding/raising/possibly hand feeding?

I SECOND THIS ADVICE.

Female Eckie's are "in charge" during breeding season. The males have to earn the right to breed by doing their bidding.... if they don't do what they are told, how they are told, when they are told, and suitably impress the female, the female will drive them off... (Which is what appears to be happening.) If he doesn't take the hint, she WILL kick his A$$. If he can't get out of there, someone is going to get hurt. Probably the male.

[HHMMM.... Why does this behavior sound familiar... Oh, right! Singles Bars!]

It's not uncommon for female eckies to have 3-5 male "slaves" during breeding season, and as the males compete with each other to please her, they also get to "please" her.

Sounds like Junior is either too young, or too proud, and not getting with the program. Sooner or later (when he is more mature) "the need to breed" will override his fragile male ego, and he too, will do her bidding...

Happens to the best of us eventually! :D

IF the female is ready she would lean down and shake her wings with her tail up. She would be making almost a cooing sound while doing this. You should NEVER stick two birds together without introduction first!!!! As it has been mentioned above that the females are the ones in charge in a Eclectus relationship.

How long have you had birds? Breeding experience?? Haven't seen you answer that question that was asked from above.

yea she does this too shaking her wings and her tail up! I have birds 8 years now breeding experience yes but not on eclectus..soo what is ur idea that I must do for the birds good?

How long have you had the male???

He may be too young, OR he may be intimidated.

Please - be patient. And be prepared to separate them if the female doesn't get what she wants and ends up going after the male.

Eclectus breed year round.

@Birdman: Hilarious!!!

@antreas: If your female is indeed presenting, that reinforces what Wendy and Birdman have been saying. The male likely just isn't ready. Might just be a matter of time. Might not. You probably just need to take things more slowly and watch for increased aggression.

You can put two pairs up together, it does not mean they're going to breed or like each other period. My pairs are both old enough as both are about 8 years old. I have a pair of Solomon Island Eclectus. Gracie does NOT let JoJo mate with her but she wants us instead. They tolerate each other as I got them together to begin with but they're not a mated pair. I have read a lot of Eclectus breeding as the females can be picky and I've been told by breeder friends to try certain stuffs but I haven't give that a try yet to see if it works so I'm not even gonna mention it until I try. Another thing to do is have them in a aviary system with multiple pairs near by as I've read that they have more successful rate doing it that way.
