Orange-Winged Amazon ~ Marley
Hi all I'm just curious on the prices of parrots in ur area/country

I'm living in dubai for all of you that don't know me already :) and i thought id share with u some prices of parrots here (as I'm always at the shop asking) lol

Amazons (Not hand tamed) = 5,000dhs ($1088)
Amazons (hand tamed) = 9-10,000 ($2450-$2700)
Congo African grey (hand tamed) 5,000 ($1088)
Umbrella cockatoo = 11,000 ($3000)
pink cockatoo (lol not sur elf name) = 11,000 ($3000)
Ringneck = 900dhs ($245)
Cockatiel = 500dhs ($136)

B&G Macaw (hand tamed) = 11,000 ($3000)
Green winged (little beaky) = 15,000 ($4000)
Scarlet Macaw (caged wouldn't let me get him out :( ) = 23,000 ($6200)

just wondered if these were expensive??? oh and these are prices from pet shops and breeders NOT random people lol i got Marley for 1600dhs ($430)!!!

Not sure about some of them, but here in Oregon, USA

Amazons usually run about 300 to 600 USD on average at the bird store I go to or even on craigslist.

They have a Galah Cockatoo (pink & grey) for 1800 USD

They had a 20 year old Green Wing for 3000 USD

Greenwings are usually somewhere around $1800 - $3000 is ridiculous...

Well, a well used BFA will only set you back about $350 lol. Must not mind a bad attitude and 'wild' nature for that kinda deal!;)

The only one I ca contribute in a non joking way is when we first looked for parrots we priced hand raised baby eclectus. They were about $1200-$1800.

Wow...here in SA an African Grey without cage and handreared will set you back anywhere between R3000 and R4000. That would be about $258 to $344. I bought Milo, my Mustache Parakeet for R450...$38.70. Just saw a B&G advertised at R6500... that would be about $559.

So in a nutshell...if you have american $86000 and you move here, you will officially be a millionaire, Lol.

thanks for all ur replies :) id say its probably on about par though taking into account everything here is expensive.. lol i pay 90,000dhs ($25,000) a year for rent of my med size 2 bed apartment and this is one of the cheapest in dubai! a better example is my sister 5 bed house.. 210,000dhs a year rent and 45,000dhs water and electric so 255k is around $69,500 just for rent and bills for a 4 bed house :0

i just have been speaking with a hyacinth macaw parrot owner.. he bought it 6 months ago and his son has an allergy and is now having to sell him. its out of my price range unfortunately it looks like a lovely bird but its around a gobsmacking 28,000dhs! also speaking to another guy with a B&G which is a tenth of the price :)

These prices are VERY expensive compared to US - cockatiels are from $40-100 here, with whitefaces and pearls costing more. As for greys, I've seen anywhere from 200-1000.. amazons here in IL 200-600... I was offered a few umbrella cockatoos for free (not prefect ones, pluckers and screamers) and a perfect one wold be 700-1000, there is a very nice Galah on sale now for $900 in OH, and I almost bought one for $800 with a cage last year. I saw bare eyed toos as low as 300-350, and Goffins for 300-400 as well. But these are NOT petstore prices - I would never buy a bird form a pet store. :)

you guys are lucky living in the states u can buy a bird from anywhere in the states here in dubai its not so populated lol

Because I'm mathematically challenged - how much is the Hy in American $$ ?

Dubai is an expensive city,so is Newyork,London and Tokyo to name a few. It is still a tax free heaven for many people who chose to make it their home.
There are always around that. You can choose to live outside Dubai (many emirates have more reasonable costs of housing )and still work here.
Regarding the prices of parrots you can also check Satwa petshops and you'll find that it is a lot cheeper than the list you mentioned.
I would also suggest looking up breeders in Dubai and Sharjah and there are many.
Honestly though,to me you develop this interest the moment you get a bird and then you start to look around.you get bargains sometimes with rehoming(look on line).
After all you got Marly at an unexpected price for a zon.

I'm wondering where y'all are finding your zons. Here in Houston for a baby of one of the hot 3 they seem to go for 900 to 1500.

would love to get some info on the shops ur referring to in Al satwa? also I've only ever found one site that has breeders but they all seem to be scams? rehoming I've never found.. if there were parrots needing a home id take them all lol :)

Hi. Jamjar
As for Satwa shops just go down the main road and try different petshops. There are more than one,all located at the main street. Many of them are willing to negociate the price.
I found indian ringnecks at 50-100dhs(14-27$).
I got my Rio from there and he is in excellent health.
Ther are no garantees though,as I also got a cockatiel that died after one week.
As for rehoming just look online (expatwoman.com and dubai.dubizzile.com)have second hand cages and birds for sale or rehoming because of their owners relocating and having to leave the country.
Breeders I only checked online and saw locations but never tried them myself.
Good lu with your search.
