Hey guys was just wondering if those of you who have potty trained your birds would mind sharing some tips. Just trying to get my Macaw back into the habit as she does a lot of traveling with me and has decided she is not, in fact, potty trained. It's my fault as well for not keeping up at her. Was SO much easier to train her when she was a tiny baby!!! lol.
I'd like to get the rest of the gang trained as well, that way my boyfriend won't be as scared when we move in together.. dun dun dun dun... poop everywhere! ahhh!
Thanks!

Ooh, i have no idea how to train adult birds on this subject, my ekkie is and GCC are both potty trained, but i did it when they were little.

I'd think repeat repeat repeat repeat ....

When I see my baby lovies poop I say "poop" so maybe they will learn when I say "poop" they will poop ------ although I do see this as a potential funny thing especially if I have a baby and get "poop" on me lol. Have baby lovies pooping all the time lol. Yahh, I need a therapist lol.

Yep all mine are potty trained, Errol and Flynnie were older when they came to live here but I'm not sure how they got potty trained the just never did it outside their cage, probably too scared, (they came from a rescue situation)

Bucc and Kito have decided that (well Kito more so than Bucc) the potty training can go out the window he poops anywhere at the moment, so I'm re-working it with him. Its really just making sure that when they are ready to go you put them on a stand (or where ever you want them to go) and give loads of praise either food or scritch, whichever your fid loves more. (Sounds so simple doesn't it. ) :D :D :D

Sigh.. the only problem is Madison seems to take great pleasure in making ill timed poops. Sometimes she even laughs!
I'll keep working with her, thanks for the info everyone! :)

Sadly by cheering and clapping hands when Rox pooped in cage or on paper she now sees it as a way to get attention.......or revenge.

Karen, thats just how I managed to get Bucc to poop inside his cage, lots of cheering and clapping, He used to hang on til he came out which was fine, until he has to stay in a bit later, now he poops quite happily in his cage, but only if he has newspaper down and always only on the paper.
