Potty Training Fail

I'm trying to train my galah. She knows the potty and will sit there, but she never seems to do poo. One day, my poo will come.

I'm imaging you singing this post to the tune of, "Some day, my prince will come." It's pretty spectacular.

Does Galah have a big morning dump? That's where ours got started.

We started with a bowl. I think we need to switch to one of these potties, though. As our little guys get more active, the landings and takeoffs tend to fling poo. What do they think they are, monkeys? ;-)

I'd read that, but I really don't know. Her main cage is outside on the patio and she wakes up to her own timetable, not mine, so I haven't been able to capitalize on the "catch the morning poo" advice. I'm too busy saying good morning, giving scratches and watching her "do her stuff" to have noticed any pooing when I see her in the morning. Maybe I need to have her spend the night inside to take advantage of that....

oooh, no - poopoo in potty, boys!

I use a plastic wash tub for Rio. She knows when I say 'go poop' she usually will. But if I am lazy about it she will just go anywhere :(

Oh, the poo comes, but just not when she is on the potty. She seems to like to be hanging over the edge of things when she goes.

Keep observing your bird, when you see the tail begins to wiggle, quickly place the bird on the potty.
If your bird succeeds praise your bird abundantly.
You bird will know that you are happy and will do it again and again.

She doesn't seem to give much sign, it's just "splat" all of a sudden..... We may get there eventually, it's mainly that it's boring for me waiting for her to poo, and she seems to deliberately not want to go when I'm watching..... :D

Observe your bird and take note of how long between poppies.
I place Mishka on the potty every 15 minutes. Tell him to please poopie for mommy. I wait a few seconds, of nothing take him off. The repeat it again in 10 minutes.

Your bird will eventually get the hang of it I PROMISE YOU THAT

I appreciate all the advice!

antoinette, holy crap! That's awesome. I'm not quite the training master you are, but I'll work on the baby steps. First I have to create my synchronized caique hopping team.

Definitely not quite the training master and will never be

Basically it boils down to trial and error
What works for some, might not work for others.

Be consistent - Be patient

Thanks !!!!

That is actually a baby's potty, and it suits Mishka perfectly

He loves dragging the potty around the apartment

Believe it or not, Mishka actually eats and poops in one corner of his cage, basically I have to only clean the one half of his cage.
