"Kiwi" My Hahn's Macaw and R.I.P. Buddy the GCC-2009 - 2011
I brought Kiwi home yesterday, and so far, whenever I put her back in her cage, she poops! She hasn't pooped on me or anywhere outside of her cage! If so, then I'm happy!!!!:green2::green2:

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Wow, lucky you! Tell her to come teach Apple how not to potty on mommy. Lol!

Praise her when she does it. When you can tell she's ready to go, take her to the designated place & use your word. I tell merlin good pee pee, he is semi trained. SP & antionette uses poopie. lol

I hope Kiwi keeps it up.............. one up for us girls LoL
Why not get a baby potty, and place her on the potty, when outside the cage, say every 6 or 8 minutes and say, Kiwi poopie in the potty. (Kiwi will learn to poopie in the potty and is learning a few new words) Potty training a bird is one of the easiest things to teach a bird. I had my sister's bird staying with us for 3 weeks last year, after two days he was fully potty trained.
Problems could arise at a later stage. What if Kiwi is outside her cage for a long period, and needs to relieve herself. She then then "hold it in" until re-entering her cage.........

Below is a picture of Mishka and Zazo sharing a potty

I got my Greewing when he was 5 weeks old. He started out in a large tupperware container, when he was old enough he moved into his big bird cage. I never tried to potty train him, he is now 6 years old and he only poops in one spot in his cage. I have no idea why but it works out great for me. Of course if i have him out of his cage for a really long time he will go elsewhere on rare occasions.

I never actually knew anything about potty training parrots, but for some reason or another, my goffin trained herself not to poop on things. It may have just been because if she would poop on me or the floor I would have to put her down to clean it up and she just didn't want to be put down. One day I was holding her for awhile and I put her on her cage and she immediately pooped, I looked around, no poops on me or the furniture either. From that day on, whenever I was holding her I would periodically hold her over her cage or take her out on the porch and hold her over the railing(it was only about 3 feet off the ground, it was a mobile home porch) and she would poop, them we would go back to playing. She never pooped on anyone or anything other than her cage or the ground outside, I never could really explain it as it wasn't something I taught her to do, but it was pretty cool! Unlike miss ziggy who took a shower with me earlier, we got out and while I was getting dressed I stuck my clean foot right in a pile of birdie goo...awesome...
