What do you think about this? I'm hoping to train the bird to want to go only on his potty stand and I made 3 of these for him tonight. One will stay in his cage, one on his play top and the third one can go where ever we happen to be playing or chilling out. They're also small enough to fit in his mobile cage and I'm hoping(!!) big enough that he won't miss, lol.

Good idea or have I lost my mind here?

With training, it is quite possible! My CAG Boomer was potty trained and would go on demand.

It's definitely possible. But why put any inside of his cages? You could train him to only go either on one of his stands or in his cage. They can understand having 2 accepted potty stations.

That bowl may end up getting pooped down the side of (although the picture may be distorting the size and it really is big enough). Adult cockatiels are pretty long and some birds back up when they go. Might work, though. I trained mine to go on command so I make them go over a trashcan right when I get them out and just keep baby wipes around for accidents. I don't like doing "dishes." Good luck with the training!

It may be a bad idea, I guess that's why I was asking about it. Sounds like it's at least worth a shot and we'll just have to see how the size works out. If they're too small I can either get some bigger ones or scrap the idea completely.

The idea with having one in his cage was that if he eventually learned to only go on the potty stand, there would always be one handy for him.

I know accidents will always happen and I won't try to be too demanding but if we can form a good habit and make it easy to keep that habit, it would be kind of nice for everybody. I don't mind cleaning some dishes especially if represents cleaning up poops that might have otherwise been on the floor or furniture.
