Porridge

My flock for the first time has porridge today. With a dash of honey and cinnamon and berries on top.

Most of my flock loves cooked oatmeal, served plain at room temperature. One of their favorite treats!!

Sunny gets her 'magical porridge' daily (the keratincoated oats Sille advised to assist in featherforming, mixed with some natural painrelieve, milkthistle and probiotics, I 'glue' it together with a bit of goatmilk) served roughly at my own bodytemp because then she will eat the most of it.


I know- not the best option (heated/warm mushy food), but she refuses to eat them "as they are" and it is a great way to make sure she takes most of her meds (there will always be leftovers of course).

(appearently only the pasturized kind is safe for parrots, unfortunately.)

Yes i have read the honey thread, but it was a very very small amount and they will not get honey very often. should that be okay?

Do not ask me- I am rather lax about these things -> most parrots have a healthy immunesystem and you cannot shield you bird form every singe germ out there.
(that would be extremely unhealthy anyway)

So I will not tell you to not do this.
(I did not even know about the downside of honey till I got here...always used raw honey esp. for all the benifactory components that are also made inactive by heating it.)

i mean i guess it would be okay in very small amounts and not so often for them, this was their first time with the porridge and i wanted to sweeten it up a little, i will find an alternate it it though in the future.

Grinn.. I cheat and just use canesugar (glucose: sugarrrr baaaad) or fruitjuice (fructose: fruitsugaaaaarr als baaaaad)
