I think that was probably it! He seems great now 
It was just weird because when I had him out of the cage he wouldn't pant but then when I put him back in he would. But eventually, after having him out for about 10 mins and then putting him back in, he didn't pant, was just really tired. Maybe he would get nervous in the cage because he wasnt next to me? Though I didn't think he liked me THAT much yet! hahah or maybe he was nervous cause I was staring at him!
