This may be a strange question but I am pretty fascinated by tongues, particularly bird tongues.

So, what color is your poi's tongue?

My Sennie's is pink on top, black on the bottom. My Ruppell's is mostly pink with a stripe of black on the bottom. I just love their little two toned tongues and wondered if this is common among pois. Tongue pictures are welcome! :09:

Fun question! Original question for sure :) I'll have to go home and check, but I think Robin, Griffin, and Raven all have pink tongues with the black underside. Red Bellied Parrot, Ruppell's Parrot, Bronze Winged Pionus. I think the budgies are all pink.

I'm willing to guess that most parrots have pink/black unless they're the kinds with black feet like some cockatoos who probably have black, or real light skinned ones or light mutations probably are all pink. Wait, I think Macaws have all black too

Very interesting. My Maxi pi's is solid black. The tiel's tongues are solid pink.

Never fear, tongue model is here!!! :p

Fargo's tongue is all black, but a lightish colour on the sides of it! and underneath his tongue it is a pinky as well!

I know you asked about Poi's but thought you would be interested in macaw tongues as well! :)

I think it would be similar to their feet colour though!

I think it is related to their feet. Bosley the amazon has light beige feet and tongue

Now that one's a surprise to me :11:

Nope, Zoe's is pink and black, can't speak for the other macs though.

I thought all Macaws with the black beak were black. Obviously not!

LOLOLOL!!!

Yes! I think you're right :) It seems 'most' parrots have medium colored feet and both pink/black tongues. Now thinking about it, it does seem to go with feet color.

Talking about foot color, it seems like I've seen some Senegals with the "normal" medium colored feet, and some with pink feet.

Kiwi has a blackish-purplish tongue and likes to kiss you with it:52: He licks everything too and sometimes when something tasty is stuck on his beak, he'll stick his tongue out to lick it off (which is creep, yet cute at the same time:09:). Its always reminded me of a little worm in his beak and feels very odd.

Bundii the Alex has a pinkish tongue with black underneath. Her feet are a greyish colour. :)

Oh! Bundi! My lovebird has grayish feet and her tongue is the same. Pink on top and blackish underneath

I'll go check my pigeons. All of them have pink tongues and bright red feet, but I recently had a squab born with black feet & black beak.

This is so interesting! I appreciate the responses.

Tab those have to be the best tongue pictures ever! Thanks for sharing those!

My mom's Blue and Gold Macaw has a primarily black tongue that lightens toward the center

Julie, now I am wondering about pi tongue colors!

Maybe we will hear more from other pi owners. My maxi pi has gray feet, black beak and tongue. I just figured that is what color their tongues are.

I also didn't know that pink on top and black underneath is the common parrot tongue color. I think it is really cute!
