THe hand-feeder in Washington was excellent, she just wanted $500 more for the birdies compared to the rest of the country. She really sounded like she really was sound. Oh, but she doesn't ship. There were a few more in Washington but their prices were all very similar as well, so I decided three hours flight in a plane for a bird, plus paying a lot less, it'd be better to have the birdie flown in vs. driving a 7 hour drive and paying more.

There were some wonderful looking aviaries in Southern California. EMR specifically looked good. Bird Breeder California :: EMR Exotic Bird Breeder
I can't remember the other ones names exactly. But since S.C. would be a 20-plus hour car ride it's better for the birds anyway to go on a plane. EMR does ship, we were considering doing a white-cap pionus from there before I got grey fever. hee hee. I think their Timnehs were about $200 more than the Big Nest Timnehs in Texas.

Thank you! Yes, BigNest has great prices I must admit. Who knows maybe when I do it I will fly down there myself and just bring him/her back with me.

You know, I was reading about airline policies. It sounds like Continental/United will let you take small pets with you on the plane in a carrier. Not sure I understood everything but worth checking into! It's the Petsafe program.

It used to be as long as the carrier could sit on the floor in the foot space it was no problem. A bird carrier fits the bill for that I would certainly think.

can i ask one question. prices in US are pretty high as compare to our part of world. we have quality breeders here and they have marvelous facilities and there prices are pretty low as compared to any other part. prices over here are around 30 % of the prices offered in US.

is there any ban on importing birds for any other part of the world etc.

I would think the shipping alone would make the prices comparable even if it is legal. I am not sure though on the importation. I would think there would need to be a quarantine period as well so the costs might not make it worth while.

My in-laws lived in Bolivia for years (that's where my DH had his blue headed pionus). From our understanding, if we brought a bird from there it would have to be in quarentine for three months. I'm hearing that from other people, I haven't looked into it myself because I'd have very little way to verify the kind of environment the bird was raised in if the bird was from another country. Maybe it would work out fine. But if the bird was exposed to diseases or raised in a crowded situation with little social interaction-it could be awful. I also doubt we'd feel comfortable sending money to strangers overseas. So more expensive in the states-yes, but a lot less risky overall.

yup totally agree ...

there are many fraudulent activities almost in part of the world. it is also important to look for place where the bird has been raised so far.

it was just one thing in my mind that why there is huge difference between price.

Yea, the old saying "you get what you pay for". I would much rather pay more and know the bird was raised properly than pay less and not know what you're going to get. Just wouldn't be worth the risk for me. There are plenty if breeders here in the states with good prices. I have found grey anywhere from $600 up to $1400. You just have to look around. Some breeders aren't easy to locate online.

it would me same for me as well.
i had to place a deposit on any bird online i will look for many many things to check the originality and reliable resource.

even placing order on my safe bird store i had visited many online shops and then decided to go with them. it almost took 3 weeks to get it delivered like i had ordered something out of this world

Wendys parrots located in texas She will also harness train your parrot.

Donsbirds.com Well socialized birds...walk right out of the carrier when you receive your baby.

One more in California....she harness trains and will also flight train on a harness.

Bought from Donsbirds.

Wendy is known throughout the country as a well respected breeder and her birds are awesome...Close friends have handled and visited her birdsl Read her page and how she raises babies. Her birds are so well adjusted and you will get a life time of support. Heck she even talks to people who have not purchased birds from her. I have met both her and her husband here in houston as they attend many seminars to keep up with current practices. Barbara Heidenreich also has hold bird training seminars at Wendy's place.

Sheryl is on the west coast. Very active in AFA. She raises several species of birds. She also runs avi tv and is a wealth of knowledge.

Thanks! I have emailed Don. It doesn't look like Wendy has any Timnehs from her page. What's the name of Sheryl's business?

You would need to go on a waiting list for a few of the names I gave you but it is well worth the wait.

I am getting the aviary name on the 3rd one and will forward to you.

I live about 5 minutes from wendy's and was wanting to get a Timneh from her... Wouldn't that have been nice : ) She has a really nice place too... but that was last summer and she didn't have any Timnehs then and said it would be spring before she had any. But I don't think she had any this spring either , so I was glad I did not wait.
Best of luck finding your new baby : )

Thanks, I will probably wind up getting one from Shirley from Big Nest in Texas, unless I find one available sooner. Or they all sell before my husband can make up his mind. (I am decided, he will decide, it's just a matter of when!)
