My mother has an iguana she rescued a few years ago he was running free we knew he couldnt survive the winter so we took him in. Well she says he hasn't eaten in a month I had no knowledge of this cause she always took care of him and I was busy with my animals and job. She set him free yesterday while I was gone and told me " I don't want hom to die because of me he should be free" well I'm devastated and furious at her for being so stupid!!! When she knew he wasn't eatingng she should have taken him to a vet!!! And not set him free its much to cold for him!! Well my uncle found him today by the creek and mom said if I move him that there will be severe consequences for me I don't know what to do when she says severe consequences she means she will take all my animals a away and make me quit volunteering at the horse ranc h. I feel awful hut I cant interfere cause I can't live withought my birds and withought helping out with the rescued horses what can b I do???? Please someone help and in sibsorry for the long post and I'm sure I mdispelled some words I'm on my phone

Is there any kind of reptile rescue or sanctuary near you that you can call?
Also in my area vets would usually take them in till they gget to a rescue, can you get him to an exotic vet?

It's a shame your mom has chosen to do this. Is there any way your uncle could at least keep him for a few hours until you can find a sanctuary or vets office willing to take him? I would call any local reptile sanctuaries, exotic vets and even possibly an organization like game and fish may be able to put you in touch with someone who can take him.

I just tried the littlest act of helping him and she put me in time out and told me things will get worse if I try anything again I don't want to get my uncles involved as they arealready on moms bad side there aren't any reptile sanctuaries near me there is an exotic animal vet right by my house though I have no way of getting him there :(

Brothers and sisters can be on each others bad side and get though being upset with eachother that is family. Please try to get your uncle/s to talk to your mother and have them help take the iguana to the vet. Maybe one her brothers would be willing to care for the iguana until it can get healthy.

I can tell by your post you are very distressed. To take away your animals is cruel for the want to help another animal in need. I am so sorry you are going though this. Please try to enlist one of her brothers or both to talk to your mother about this. Being her daughter she will probably not hear your pleas for the Iguana because her mind is already set on the matter.

Please keep us updated.

When I was taking care of my sister's childeren and had to discipline them using time out I use to take one of their cats or the dog and have the animal with them as part of the time out and part of the time out they were to pet the animal and or talk to them if they wish. I found this helped calm down a upset child while they were doing their penance for getting into trouble. This also gave them the opportunity to "tell" the pet all their woes of Auntie being so mean.

All my sister's children are huge animals lovers as adults.
