anyone have any good diy playstand step by steps for macaws? or could just suggest a really good one that thet have bought, with three birds gonna need a couple good ones!:blue:

Depending on what type of Macaw you have, you have to make sure that the perch or dowl rod you are using is the correct size for your Macaw. I have a Green Wing. The largest of the Macaws should not have anything less then 2 1/2 inches. For B&G 1 1/2 to 2 inches round. As the Macaws are smalled then the B&G you have to go smaller.
I purchased my playstand, removed the perch it came with, went to Home Depot, purchased my own Dowl rod untreated, drilled 2 holes and attached it to the playstand. Thanks Joe

well we will bw gwtting the b and g, we already have a moluccan cockatoo, and a congo african grey. so u might say we are all over the board as far as that goes. we have a little feed station with the two cups and the sitting stick, but dexter the cag chewed it in half i went to home depot like u and bought a 2 inch dowel and drilled holes in it and put the cups back on it. take him a year to chew through that lol:blue:

I bought the exact same one for Lucy. Word of advice. Go to Home Depot and by a dowel rod now and prob some 1x1 inch square rod so you can replace the wood that is on there now. You can also go to the pet store and get some perch wood that already has the bolt in it to replace these little steps.

It took Lucy only a matter of hours to take all the little steps off and the main dowel perches fell off the following morning from being chewed on. The wood they used is very soft.

Mike, I sent you a PM on the play gym. TakRail, do you still like it?

I am seriously contemplating purchasing one of these, but am waiting to see if I can find something less expensive and better made at a bird fair.

I like that one too. I wish I could find a place that had Mike's and yours for comparison purposes. lol.

Actually I think Mike's is probably a better value. It's about the same price and there's a lot more to it. It even comes with natural wood perches. My only question would be whether the dimensions of all its parts (ie, its open spaces) are large enough for a large Macaw. Its overall dimensions show to be wider and deeper than the one I posted. But I'm not sure if its reported width and depth (40" x 26") are for the frame alone or for the seed guard when it's installed. Mine is 33" X 23" for just the frame and 41.75" X 32.5" with its seed guard installed. Mike's is clearly taller because of its hanging rack. It looks to be a better deal to me - as long as its spaces are big enough.

Oh, I just noticed... without its seed guard the width and depth of Mike's are: 31" x 18", so it's a bit smaller than mine. It looks quite a bit busier within its smaller space constraints, too. Again, mine is 33" X 23" without its seed guard. Just for what it's worth.
