I recently just got pionus parrot and there's a few questionable acts that he is doing that I would like to get clarified on. When I enter the house he flares up and his back tail as well. It's been a few days since I've had him and I don't know why he does it. He also weaves his head back and forth sometimes it's when he's fired up and other times it's not. I just would like answers it would mean a lot also if there's any tips and tricks I should know about owning a pionus parrot I would appreciate the advice since I'm new to owning a pionus and all. Thank you in advanced.

If you had an amazon parrot I would say it sounds like he is making the "I am happy to see you" display. I know nothing of Pionus body language.
I think they are native to South America so it could be that the body language is similar.

Welcome and be welcomed. I suggest you go to the Amazon sub forum and read the I Love Amazons thread at the very top of the page. Most of the info is applicableto every species of parrot. VERY GOOD information there.

Tell us more about your parrot, your relationship with him, and we might be able to give you good advice.

What kind of Pionus do you have? I have a Bronze Winged. Sounds like he’s excited. They’re said to be closely related to Amazons, and the males will do the strut. I’m not sure if females do it too. I’d beware of touching him when he’s doing it. Pionus bites are not fun. Mine will try to bite at other times as well, he’s just a crotchety guy. Only me though, he loves my husband and is super tolerant with him.

Interesting, did you have your Pionus since it was young? They have huge beaks for their size and mine is only 3 months old now and it's already almost full grown. He bites me all the time but it's gentle and a way to communicate with me, none of his bites have hurt except for when I mistakingly let him 'chew' on me. So unless his bite force will grow substantially when he's an adult I think I'm good..
