My baby Chewie (4months old) is getting her first pin feathers and they're all around her beak, with loads of them just above her beak. Some are getting quite long so look a bit unusual! She loves getting her head tickled but i'm not sure she wants me helping her with her pin feathers yet. I did almost manage to split one of the longer ones before.

If I just itch them and let her do the rest will she manage it? Just wondering if anyone found anything to help them sort these pin feathers out.

Thanks! :D

Give her plenty of baths, it loosens them up, and makes it easier for her to remove.

Second the baths.

Let her tell you what she wants. I carefully scritch with my fingernails around the beak, forehead, but it's hard to tell when those little feathers are mature.

She will take care of them eventually without help, so I'd let her take the lead in showing you where she wants the attention and where she doesn't.

I third the baths.

When chichi is molting I scritch his head and then he takes his foot And scratches a specific area. Then I know where he needs help. I just give them a pinch or roll them between my fingers. They might be too tiny to pinch tho. But he shows me where he needs help and then I help him. He fluffs up and tilts his head for me. It's how I know I'm in the right spot!

He's molting his wing feathers right now. Larger ones are always easier. Good luck!
