Pictures of Mango

I think your HUGE advantage is that YS Amazons are generally REALLY REALLY sweet birds. :)

I'm confident that in time your baby will be all right sitting on your hand and/or arm. You need to be persistent, kind of block his way going all the way up to your shoulder. He will get the hint. :)

Talk to him sweetly and softly and praise praise praise when he stays on your hand/arm for a while without making a dive for your shoulder.

What a cute little guy!!
My amazon was only comfortable on my shoulder after I first got him, henpecked is right as his trust grew for me he would go on my arm and hand more.
Encourage your little one with treats to go on your arm/hand. Bosley now is on my hand more than he is on my shoulder, he really only uses my shoulder as a landing spot when he flies to me.
You have received good advice about being careful with any bird on your shoulder, one of the first things you must teach him about this is he must get off your shoulder when you ask. I do let my amazon on my shoulder and he has not bitten or tried to but I do make sure he gets off if he's getting excited and do limit his time there.

What do you use as treats?

Anything you find that he really likes and will respond to.
fruit, nuts, seeds, popcorn etc
Each bird has individual tastes so see what he enjoys most, for my Bosley the first time he went on my arm it was for cheese, but use that very sparingly because it's fattening.

I am becoming very impatient waiting for him to come home. I visit him every other day

I wonder why these guys aren't as common if they are supposed to have nicer temperaments and they are so colorful?

How would a bird like mango get along with an African grey? Amazon parrot was my first choice and second are cockatoos and African greys. Not that I'm getting another bird, I'm just curious.

You never know! It just depends on each individual bird's personality.....

I know a grey would be a little bigger, can a little Amazon hold his own? It's not like he is a big yellow nape.

Once you have him at home (I know, waiting is HARD!!!) you will be able to work more on training him, and keeping him on your arm instead of your shoulder. Definitely (cannot see if your ear is pierced) do not wear an earring, especially a dangling one, while he is on your shoulder, it might just be way too shiny and pretty and tempting!

I visited Mango again today and he stayed on my hand for a whole hour and didn't fly away, definitely starting to get used to me. He also started chirping at me as he was trying to say something.
