CHEESECAKE (Pineapple~GCC) 2/4/14
They are such sweethearts! I am so glad that they have come into our life. I was so afraid that they wouldn't want to be with us after they bonded. We have been blessed.... They still call for us and want us to get them for some love :)

In this one they are both sleeping in the Pineapple Hut You can only see him because he sleeps in the middle. She sleeps on his left. It is so cute when it is time to go to bed he calls her over and holds the Pineapple while she climbs in then he snuggles up next to her!

I plan to get them DNA sexed this month. I am hoping they are both boys but it doesn't seem that way. Hopefully since they are not the same species they won't mate? If they do I have a lot to learn and am very glad I found this forum!!

Green cheeks have hybridized with the following species

  1. Maroon Bellied Conure
  2. Black Capped Conure
  3. Pearly Conure
  4. Painted Conure
  5. Crimson Bellied Conure(?)
  6. Sun Conure
  7. Nanday Conure
  8. Patagonian Conure(?)

And I could very well be missing some.... so yes, DNA sexing them would be highly recommended so you don't have any "oopsies"!!!

I don't know much about birds yet.... trying to learn as much as possible. Have you heard of YSGCC and Fiery-Shoulder breeding?

Can't say I have, but I won't say it's impossible. Fiery shoulders aren't that common. A member of this forum believes that they did purchase a fiery shoulder x green cheek hybrid, but I feel it's just an exceptionally well marked green cheek.

If the green cheek is a hybrid, it's not with a fiery shouldered conure. The bird would be much more green if this were the case.

Just because it hasn't happened before doesn't necessarily mean it's impossible. Conures and amazons have hybridized. Conures and macaws have hybridized. There's a hybrid lorikeet x king parrot. Kakariki x rosella. Cockatiel x galah. Scarlet chested x princess parrot. There's some strange hybrids out there!

Being that both of your conures are Pyrrhura means that they should be able to reproduce without issues.

Adorable!! Did they get along right away?

Oh my gosh they are so so so so cute!!!!!

The adorable factor is so high in those pictures. How CUTE..I am gushing with cuteness with those precious pictures.

Love the Pineapple hut. What a adorable hut for them. I picture my giant green parrot trying to shove his big ole body into that thing. He would not fit in there in anyway but he would try to.

Yes they did get along right away. We were not looking for a mate.... My husband bought me one and then my daughter wanted one too (she is 19) So we got her one with the intentions of them being separate so that when she moves out she could take her bird with her. We let them play but they had separate cages. We had an emergency one night and my husband was left in charge of putting the birds away while I took my daughter to the ER. I came home to two birds in one cage and all he said was.... "They wouldn't have it any other way" The birds took advantage of him!.... (just like the kids do) lol

I would LOVE to see that!!!!

So sweet!!!!! I love to see birdies who love each other. What kind of wooden perch is that? I love the way it curves...and that pineapple hut...OMG! cuteness overload!

I was hoping my 2 GCCs would both be boys, but NO, Fiji turned out to be a girl. When we found out, they were already bonded and living in the same cage, canoodling in their sleep tent *sigh* They are still young, but im sure one day I will find an egg in the cage and i'll have to do something about it. I hope yours turn out to be both the same sex!

Instead of a hut because they do not make them big enough for a RFM I cut up a old baby blanket I got at the thrift store and tied it to the cage. Valentino will perch under his blanket and jabber away. Its very cute.

Valentino is the largest parrot I ever had. I might have to make him a hut but also realize I would have to probably pull it when he gets the hormones.
