yeah my first visit to AV he weighed 1 whole pound. He said he was overweight ive really changed his diet these 2 past months. Mostly veggies fruit and 30% of his intake is the pellets. Seeds are uncommon treats.

Nothing like that fresh food diet for a amazon. Eat, take a bath, find some trouble, eat again, that's an amazons main goal.

Very handsome boy, My DYH weighs in just over a pound as well.
They do love to eat!!!

so pretty!

Oh what a handsome guy he is!
What pellets does he eat?
I can't make my Zonz eat pellets....:(
You have a nice bird, enjoy him!
Did you try to sing to him, they love that.

What a beautiful amazon you've got there!!!!

torrap, be persistent and consistent when changing food!!!! I've typed this out numerous times already as it should be somewhere and everywhere on the forum...lol....but here I go again....

Here's how I do it, a bowl of pellets all day, any pellets you want to use to start. Any pellet is better then no pellet! Then in the morning I feed fresh fruit & veggies, in the evening I feed a table spoon of seeds. Then next day toss the left over seeds/crumbs and repeat the process. During this process, IF you see him eating pellets, stop feeding seeds period, not even that night. Don't give any treats or nuts or seeds! I would skip all that for a month or so before offering them in small amounts like few pieces or few nuts...

I work from 5am and typically get home by 2pm so before I go to work I give him low moisture foods like veggies sometimes a cracker. When I come home I make him a fruit snack. If he's still hungry I soak zupreem pellets for 20 minutes and he loves them wet and mushy. Before I go to bed I takeit out and clean it and repeat the process next morning.

I'm not sure without a professional if he's super overweight but I try to just feed him lots of vegetation.
His owners for ten years fed him some cheap all-seed mix from Walmart grrrr! Although I did buy one it was used to transition him to the diet he is on now. A lot still leftover but now its strictly his treat food lol.
