Just got back from the bird hut! Got a couple better pics of Bean and some info...

I got lucky and the owner was there (Brian) and they weren't busy (unless you count all 5 of the CAG babies causing havoc being out of their cage)

So Bean was surrendered due the original owner who raised HER (that's what everyone is thinking now with the hormonal behavior she is showing) wanting to travel. Apparently his father and all 3 brothers passed away in their late 40's to early 50's and he decided since he is in his mid 40's he should go travel before he drops dead.

Her beak was broken off by her running into a wall, but it is growing back (I can see it has grown a lot in just the last couple weeks)

She is very large compared to Zilla. Not sure if this is normal for being a DYH or if she is too chunky.

No. DYH's are typically larger than OWA's. Sometimes by as much as 100 grams or so.

Females are much, much, much calmer during breeding season, and the "bad" behaviors are related to establishing and defending nesting territories. So that's good in my opinion.

Whether or not two zons get along under the same roof depends entirely on the birds...

Bean looks young to me, and looks like she may get some more yellow on her head, but she's got the typical central american DYH coloration.

Awww....Bean is beautiful!

Bean is a beauty:D I don't even know how you have to think twice here:54: SHE looks very much like a DYH, I really have no doubt. DYH's are naturally stockier birds and quite a bit bigger all around than the smaller zons. Lucy (my moms female DYH) is even bigger than Kiwi and he's a pretty large male BFA, she dwarfs her boyfriend Barney who's probably of similar size to Zilla (he's a GCA).

I'm sure she will be coming home with me as soon as Zilla is pronounced not contagious anymore.

There is just something about her and how she lights up when I walk in and she hears my voice. I, of course have to say "HI" to all the other birds and she is in a back room so she hears me and starts screaming until I get to her. Then doesn't want me to leave. I couldn't take her out today because he already had all 5 CAG babies, the B&G, and the little mac out, but she sure wanted me to.

Such a cutie! Have you decided yet??? lol I THINK you have!:09:

Apparently you answered that already, that's what I get for talking to the birds and typing at the same time! Something about an amazon singing Jingle Bells and telling me he's a good boy. I just HAVE to answer him!

I was told she is 6 years old, so that is young.

Well, what I meant by that was there will still be yellows coming in, probably all the way to about age 12-ish.

I have decided, if she is still there the first week of February she will come home with me. I told her today to just bite everyone who even looks at her!

I also told Brian I want her and I can take her home the first week of Feb. and he said he would do his best to keep her for me. I can't put a deposit down just on the off chance Zilla needs another round of meds. but I sure am hoping no one else snatches her up!

IMO she won't even start to yellow good until after 12yrs of age. At age 40-50 she'll have twice as much yellow. I'd guess pacific side of southern Mexico. The more northern DYHs usually have more yellow.

I have high hopes that they will get along with each other eventually.

Both have had significant exposure being around other birds. Zilla was with a B&G and 4 tiels where she came from and Bean is with bunches of other birds at the bird hut.

Awww what a beauty. Her markings are very similar to my Bosley.

Wonderful! Great to see a high def picture of her, And I could'nt have been more wrong about her being a yellow shouldered amazon LOL. She is definitely a DYH amazon. No doubt. She looks beautiful. And I hope she will make a great companion for you and your birds. :D

Beautiful Bosley! Is the beak thing "normal" for these birds? Bean's beak looks a lot like Bosley's right now. I was told she broke it off by hitting a wall, but it looks just like the pic you attached here.

Yeah his beak is considered normal. The outer layers do peel away. He was like that when we got him from the rescue and has been vetted many times.

Good to know, thanks. I was a bit concerned about Bean's beak and being told she broke it hitting a wall!!! I feel better about not having to worry about that now.
