Military Macaw - 'Lady",
GW Macaw - "Jazzy"
Just like it says in the title, we are getting our female Military Macaw tomorrow. I'm very excited and nervous - an excited, happy nervousness. She is five months old and comes from a smaller aviary that is run by the whole family and they truly socialize their birds.

I could barely sleep last night - I stayed awake just thinking about it. I'm guessing I wont get much sleep tonight either.

Not much more to say - I just had to blabber about it somewhere. :)

Cool! Congrats!! :D

Looking forward to the pics!

Congrats. We have had our rosie(military macaw) for about 5 months now and she is awesome. Always good to see others getting military's.

I.. AM... STUNNED...

We picked up our Military Macaw today... She is amazing. She is the sweetest thing. I'll start from the beginning.

We drove almost two hours to pick her up. The wonderful owner of the aviary (I'd really like to mention her name and the aviary, but not sure if it's allowed) met us half way. Lady (our new Macaw) had to sit in the crate for about 5 1/2 hours total until we got her home. She almost immediately went from her crate into her new home. She quickly stepped in the far corner of ther cage. We left her to be for about an hour. When we came back she came close to the door so I opened and she came out. She played by herself on top of her cage. She seemed to lean towards me so I lifted my arm for her to step up and she didnt bite, but she gave a very slow pinch. Definitely just testing my sleeve. She stepped up. She then buried her head into the crook of my arm and I was petting her as she gave out tiny little squeeks. I put her back onto her perch on the outside of her cage and she flew to me :). She went onto my shoulder which did worry me, but then she showed how much more sweet she was. She climbed down to my chest and was leaning into me and my face and I was petting her and she was lifting her wing so I could get underneath and I was rubbing her beak! Within just a couple hours of getting home!

I attribute her wonderful personality to the amazing owner who socialized her while weaning her. Lady is an amazing parrot. I consider myself beyond lucky to have found her. I've included some fuzzy pics from my cell phone. Please excuse my ugly mug :)

Awesome! Congrats!

That's a good looking Lady you have there.

Grinder: Lady is both beautiful and adorable :). Congratulations! You clearly have a very gentle and personable baby there.

One thing you may want to address is that long chain hanging from what looks to be the end her outside perch. Chains, ropes, strings, and cords which are long enough to wrap once around the neck of a parrot present a strangling hazard during playtime. The most dangerous ones are those with objects of weight hanging from their ends. Those can easily create a 'weighted noose' scenario, which can result in a bird's death quite quickly. From your photo I can't see exactly how long the chain is, but it appears long enough to be of concern.

You must be so happy that Lady is now a member of your family :D

Thanks for the tip, Plax. You are right. It is weighted with toys at both ends. I will definitely correct this.

Congrats on bringing Lady home. :) She is BEAUTIFUL!!!!! And WOW you got one affectionate, sweet baby girl there. :D
