I'm SO excited to be bringing Maalik (African name, pronounced Ma-leek) home on Wednesday! I'm going to have so much fun today assembling his cage and decorating it with all his toys!

He weighed in at 525 grams yesterday, so he's going to be a big boy!

Should I start off by having his perches positioned low in his cage, and then move them up as he becomes more coordinated? Should I create an area inside his cage that will allow him to flap his wings, or not worry about it, since he's going to be out and about quite a lot?

I'd personally keep at least one perch lower in the cage, as greys have been known to relax while sleeping to the point of falling off their perches. ;)

The cage is ready, and now I have to wait 6 more hours before I can bring Maalik home! Still waiting for a few more items to arrive for his cage, especially the other perches to replace those stupid wood dowels.

YAY! Congratulations! I'm hoping I get to bring mine home this weekend! :D

I like your PVC looking toy....

That's very big for a baby grey... What they used to call a "Silver Grey."

The coastal Greys are the smaller ones. The interior greys are the big 'uns...

My CAG is one of the big boys as well. He is full grown now, and weighs in at 565 grams, none of it fat. Body wise, he is bigger than my zons, and almost as big as my Red Fronted Macaw, minus the long tail...

When I set him down next to the "normal size" CAGS, you can definitely tell which one is mine!

He should have lots of fun with all those toys!

Thanks! The PVC looking thing is actually a foraging toy.

Wendy Jersey recommended the sphere toy when I brought Harley home. Harley loves that toy so much that I decided to get one for Maalik.

Do you think I should lower the perch levels until he becomes a bit more coordinated?

Oh, and I couldn't stand those dowels, so I went out and replaced them both. Now I feel better!

Foraging toy you say?

Can you elaborate? Did you build it or buy it? And how can I get one? lol!

I bought it. Maalik has to push back the tops to get to the treats inside. Came from My Safe Bird Store.
