My partner and I have just noticed skin peeling off the back of his legs/feet.. my partner think its a lack of moisture.. Is this bad? Can someone explain why this is happening??

I would need to see a picture of what you are talking about but I will tell you I mist/bath my eclectus 4 to 6 times per week, never less than 3x a week. With them I think baths are as important as the right diet. Jolly would bathe everyday if I let him Jillie is less enthusiastic (these are my Solomon's) but even if she isn't loving it she get's one anyway, sometimes it is a really good soak if she is acting like she wants it, other days it is a quick light mist. Jolly goes until the spray bottle is empty or my hand is cramping too bad!:p

My partner has sprayed him in his cage but he tries to attack the spray bottle - so naughty!!! we don't like he really likes it much...
Should we try doing it when he is hanging out on his play pen? And what will we do if he still doesn't enjoy it?
Jolly and Jillie sound like the cutest!! How old are they both?

I'm not familiar with peeling skin...Oliver goes in the shower with me at least twice a week and totally loves every second he's soaking under the spout wishing it would never end!

Jolly is just over a year and Jillie is almost 2 yrs. My husband and I had a few years without parrots since we were moving constantly for his work but eclectus have always been a passion and one of my favorite species going back over 25 yrs.

Do you have a small travel perch or shower perch that you can put right in the shower and either use the shower or mist bottle. I do both depending on if I am needing a shower too!:p I would have your partner take him into the shower just don't have the water too hot or too cold. That way your partner can bring him into the mist of the shower while talking to him and letting him know he is safe. Some will learn to love it some will learn to tolerate it but either way like it or not it is very important that they get really regular baths.

Yup! Bixby went from disliking baths to stoically tolerating them. But he has no choice. He has to bathe. I just do all that I can to see what works best for him. Maya, on the other hand, quite enjoys her baths. Whistles the entire time, wings spread wide! Lol! But yes, baths are very important.

As for the peeling legs, though, I haven't a clue. If it continues, you should probably take him to a vet. Could you maybe post a pic?

Hey guys, when we got him out this morning my partner sprayed him while standing on his Hand with the spray bottle, he didn't try and attack it, he put both of his wings out and seemed not to mind it... which is good! We will have to try the shower for him.

We will take a photo of his legs today when we are home and post it so we can get some feed back on it and will keep an eye on it. Thanks :)

It does just look like dry flaky skin or possibly that he skinned it playing is it on both legs or just the one? The pic is not real close and is hard to see but I would just make sure you are giving him regular baths. I really don't think it's bad enough to warrant this but if I was ever going to put something on feet for dry skin it would only be 100% organic coconut oil and a VERY small amount at that.

Hello everyone!four weeks ago we bought two five months old male and female Eclectus Parrots. I love them but I'm learning about the care for them emotionally, diet and undestanding body language so hopefully joining in would help that happen.:red::green2:

Welcome to the forums, I love Eclectus parrots and I think we would all love to see some picture! There's a good amount of Ekkie owners here that give out the most amazing advice

We have started to bathe him so we will see if that helps with the flaking... Thanks for that!
