Gilbert Oliver, Blue Crown Conure; Georgie, Sun Conure (2/8/01-8/8/12) RIP little girl; Percy, budgie 1993-1999. RIP Pepito-spanish timbrado canary
We finally had a beautiful day today and Gilbert came outside to enjoy it with me. He kept trying to fly to me when he got down!!! This was the first he ever tried to fly (he grew in one flight feather on each wing!!!) I used it as his first real 'recall' training.....i set him down and walked to the end of the leash and called him back and each time he tried to fly to me and then ran to me (because he can't fly). So far so good with him....i feel i am unbelievably blessed because i have not had one bad day with him yet and he is almost a year old. He is sweet 100% of the time still and never gives me attitude about anything. I feel lucky beyond words.
I included a couple photos from today and here is a link to a very shaky little video i took of him trying to fly then walking to me when i called him.

He's cute! Nice video!

So awesome thank you for sharing! We just got our green cheek and aviator harness and I feel like its still so big and we got the petite size. Our bird will let me put it on her but all she wants to do is chew on it. I hope that one day she will do as good as your sweet baby!

Gilbert sure is a handsome fella
You obviously "put" in a lot of time with Gilbert, the proof is in the pudding watching your awesome video.
Love the video and pic's
Thanks for sharing

Aw gorgeous photos!! :)

MissTaz--If you just started it may take a little while for your bird to get used to it. I tried following the instructions on the dvd exactly because i REALLY wanted Gilbert to be harness trained since my Georgie wasn't. I found the little exercises on the dvd beneficial (even the holding the wing up to the count of three, then release, etc) because I never specifically did training to get used to specific types of handling. Gilbert didn't ever like having me lift his wings and after a number of times going through the routine of it, he seemed to understand it would end after the count of three and he just started to let me do it without fussing. :) And since i don't let him outside without the harness, he completely goes along with it now for the good times he looks forward to. I have to say, i can now get that thing on and off him like a pro, so that makes it way easier on the bird. I was pinching at him a few times on the first few tries, not too bad, but i was definitely clumsy with it.

Thanks for sharing, I love the photos. :D What a cute bird.

a quick pic of gilbert this evening in his favorite window. it feels like you are sitting in the tree when you sit at that window, and i like to sit and watch the birds in the tree.......so it only makes sense this is his favorite window in the house.

hi RuffledFeathers,
Gilbert is looking so happy and beautiful. Adorable in the video. I looked at some of the other pics on Flickr too -- wow, great photos -- i love the one of his kissing the giant version of himself. The paino pic is calander-worthy. They are all great. Thanks for sharing. You're a lucky bird-mama

I am lucky!!! He is a wonderful bird. Yes, i just realized Flickr allows way more uploads now (i was beyond maxed out before for my free membership) and i like the new site design, so i may put more pics up. They have a nice mobile app now too.

How cute, Thanks for sharing:)

Using this same thread and updating it....same topic, different lovely day. :) Gilbert has been to LBI before but not on a nice day like today. (it was winter or POURING rain on his other trips). Here is his first time at the bay. (We'll have to try the beach too when the time is right.) He is really excited and i let him fly a little bit (not near the water, but maybe 40 feet back).
