I did take Pete outside for a few minutes, but he can't fly yet. I thought about it with Merlin but she does have full wings, even though I suspect she can't fly anymore. I decided not to take the chance though.

Con is quite beautiful! And so is your property there.

Great pics.I agree I would be frantic that it would fly away..I so want to go out with my birdies...My cat lets my bird climb on her too.She even puts up with getting bit, but eventually gets disgusted and goes away....Some cats are of the rather useless lapcat variety(LOL)..

She enjoys sitting with my dad and I too much to fly away I guess? I don't know lol She knows that if she makes her alarm growl that I'll go on alert too then hide her in my shirt till the danger is gone. Her wings are clipped but she's got two flight feathers in all of a sudden! I plan on keeping her inside when a few more come in until we got flight training down to a science but I'll still be leery about letting her free fly. There are bald eagles that stop by once and a while so I'd be paranoid. I feel that if you have a tight bond with your bird and do lots of consistent training, they'll do everything they can to get back to you but of course that isn't a free pass to be negligent when she's outside. And having some of their favorite treats on hand might help too

As for the cats, they learned the first week that I got her that she was not food but that they're noses were. All my cats have killed and eaten birds but have no interest in her. They run away is she comes close cause they know I'll bat them away if they show interest.

Thanks Roxy That's my dad's view from his front wall and I hope to have my own view in a few months. Also, wish I could upload a video to youtube of Con chasing me across the lawn. I got up to go inside and she hopped off her branch next to my dad and did that cute parrot walk/hop through the grass. It was so adorable!

Well, just remember some people who have birds they have been bonded with for decades have lost them because they became frightened. When a bird becomes frightened they do sometimes fly very far very fast before they stop and realize they have no idea where they are.

And with Merlin not being able to see well, I didn't want to take that chance even though I know she loves me like crazy. Same with Rowdy.

What lovely photos. I'm anxious to start free flight training with Merlin but don't want to have his wings clipped as he struggles to walk around due to his leg. I don't know if I should or not.

Good point! We have wind around here that is almost strong enough to make me fly!

I know about the wind. I don't take her out unless its calm and if the wind flares up she's right back inside. Unfortunately, my dad doesn't follow the same rule even though I've told him not to take her out without me. The sooner I can get my own place, the sooner I can get her back into an environment where she's safe and there isn't smoke.

We're working with her harness so that I can take her out without worrying about a stray wind. Con enjoys the sunlight and I don't want to take it away from her.

She looks so happy! I do stuff like this with Puck too, and he's never tried to run/fly away from me when we are outside.

If we are by stores, and he sees a ceiling fan on, that's another story, so I have to be careful. Apparently ceiling fans are scarier than predators, lol.

Con isn't scared of anything but than again she hasn't seen a moving ceiling fan lol. I'm curious as to what she's scared of. I'm rather proud that she just hangs out with me instead of taking off.

Update: I got approved for my mortgage loan and will begin bargaining with the owner soon. I'm super excited!

My birds are all really leery of the ceiling fans as well when I first turn them on for the season. And Pete was eyeing the one here in the front room last week like he never noticed it before, lol! I said, "Pete, it's been there ever since you came into this house!" Wait until I turn it on, ha ha. Probably soon. I'm seeing a forecast of 80s for next week.

BTW, don't leave your ceilings on when your birds are out if they can fly. Many have been killed or seriously injured by ceiling fans.
