Pepper and Slinky Part 2

I might keep telling myself I couldn't keep them but I'm not sure I'd convince me of it lol. Way to cute!

Just so adorable Had to come see your babies still so heartbroken .... Are you handfeeding them?

So true, Blue,

they are getting cuter by the day. They now explore the entire plastic container I put them in during their hour outing. They are stretching their wings and are chomping on the bowl with broccoli. As I am writing I have them sitting next to me.
My daughter and I have named all of them.

1) oldest male ALBUS DUMBLEDORE
2) second male ARTIC BREEZE
3) youngest female ANNA BANANNA

Tried to find all "A" names, since it is the first clutch.
They are starting to spread their wings and groom themselves and each other.
Here is another video I took today.

denise3mom,

I hope you will open your heart to another baby grey. Your experience has been so terrible, it should not end on such a bad note.
I do feed the babies some formula while I have them out (an hour a day). I will spoon feed and offer them broccoli and carrots to eat. Each day they are exploring more and they do eat now by themselves. I think I will be putting the babies in their own cage in about 2 weeks or so but in a week I will start putting them in the cage I have set up for them so they can get used to it. We will see how things will go....

I haven't been able to go online due to a power outage since Monday. Here is an update on the three little ones.
They are getting so big! Albus Dumbledore (oldest) is now able to climb to the nest box hole and he spends hours just looking out.
I take them outside for 2 hours a day now (not the past couple of days however). We had no heat in the house and it was too cold for the babies.
I have been putting them into their weaning cage so they can get used to it. Today they were exploring and felt comfortable.
Here is a picture I took today.

A video of the babies I took today. First time they were climbing the cage bars, I was impressed!

They are so adorable - how are you ever going to be able to part with them? Or are you planning to keep them all?

coral3,
thank you. I wish I could. I just ran that by my husband and I said to him. I wish I could just have this huge aviary and they could all live together in a big flock and I could watch them all day.
I found a great home for one of the babies. Albus Dumbledore. The other two are still available but if I cannot find a great home I will certainly keep them.

So, I was worried about what will happen to the babies once they climb out of the nest. Well, this happened this morning. Luckily I had put up a large wire perch right under the nest box hole in case the baby would lose its balance and fall it would fall onto the wire perch. Well, the baby #2 Artic Breeze climbed out, sat on the wire perch, played with a toy and then got brave trying to explore the cage and....
fell, however flapping his wings and landed softly on the cage floor. I quickly put some food and water down on the cage floor and he immediately took to it. Pepper and Slinky had to check him out if he was ok. He was very happy but the parents for worried for him. They wanted him to climb up the cage bars. Two minutes ago he did and is now happily sitting on the perch.
Here is a video I took this morning (6am, it is a bit dark).

This has all been such a great learning experience. I guess the next step is them flying! Can't wait!

Now Albus Dumbledore is peeking out of the nest box while his brother is next to him on the perch.

Good morning,

so today I decided to seperate the parents from the babies. The babies have been eating pellets, fruits and vegetables for a while now and really enjoy drinking water. They are right next to their parents cage (Pepper and Slinky) and can see them and watch what they are doing.
The babies love their cage. It is all like a huge playground to them.

Here is a video I took today.

Hello everybody,

this will be my last update on Pepper and Slinkys babies. They are going to their new homes soon. They all have been flying a little now and are eating their pellets.
It was a great journey and an exciting experience. Thank you for everyone reading the thread and for all your inputs and comments.

Thank you Alisana,

this was a wonderful experience to see babies grow. My main concern was finding them loving homes and I wholeheartedly can say "I DID". Spektor (former Albus Dumbeldore) will be going to his home today and Arctic Breeze is soon to follow.
I took one last video today of the boys together. I will miss them but I am also happy to see the new owners spoiling their new baby.
Thank you for everyones interest and support.

Hi Papaya :)

I know this is an old thread... I only just found it again (after a bit of searching!) - I had to find out how the story ended! Glad Pepper & Slinky's babies all found good homes. :)

How are they doing now? Have their new parents kept you updated at all? And how are Pepper & Slinky doing? - Would love an update...such a beautiful story. :smile015:

Hi coral3,

sorry... I haven't been on parrotforums for a while. Thank you for your interest. Yes, I did find great homes for all the babies. I am in good contact with two of them and one of them has made promisses but I really don't get much updates. The other two hit the jackpot and are spoiled. They are both very smart, talk and run the household. They are also both free flighted (wings not clipped). Pepper and Slinky are doing great. They had another clutch this year. I actually just moved their this years clutch into their own cage two days ago. I have two girls and one boy and they are 9 weeks old. I was a lot more relaxed this time since I knew that Pepper and Slinky do an awesome job. I just love watching them raise their little babies. Pepper still remains to be very sweet and Slinky is pretty aggressive (protective) around the babies but still loves attention (just not physical attention). Love my birdies!

awesome job and beautiful babies
