Its so scary that stuff like this can just happen at any moment!!

And so thankful I have unique access to my avain certified vet. The pharmacy really worked with me to.

I'm hoping tomorrow she won't be sleeping fluffed up all day....and really show me she is feeling better.

I don't know what cooties she got but they must have been nasty. Thankful that azithromyacin kicks gram postive and gram negative cooties....

Today when I picked her up fir new meds she was cold, despite sitting right next to my powerful radiant heat panel....her feet were so cold!!!!! I was afraid she was shutting down...

But eating and be vocal by evening has my hopes up.....
And I love my sweeter heater!!! If the company only knew how much I promote them!!@ but from tge bottom of my heart I tell you I will never be without one!

It's hard for me to believe that I've retired from a career in the medical field! I got sick to my stomach and wept when Bertie injured his foot last year when a door closed on him (wind blew shut). We were in one of the many temporary accommodations after being burnt out by the fire. I read about Penny and I had the same SICK feeling! You are doing much better than me during this scary event Laura!

Penny is still pretty sick.....still improving but very sick. She didn't wake me up with screaming again... she is still fluffed and sleeping, not eating much.

I had her door open while trying to figure out what to make that she would eat. She flew to my shoulder and we had a cuddle. Then I weighed her. She has lost 5 grams..

I went to put her back and she flew to top of fridge, and retreats to the back if I try and catch her. But immediately goes to sleep puffed if I back off........

Since it was almost 10 and she hadn't eaten I made her absolute favorite, fried egg whites. She did eat that some and is back asleep

Her medication is so powerful she only gets every other day. Im hopeful after tomorrow's dose she will really improve.

My blessed vet called me fist thing to check on Penny. I discussed how cold she was and how I thought she might die yesterday morning. My vet agreed , and said after seeing her and hearing me discuss what was going on, she was very afraid that she might not make it....Thats why she chose her new meds for speed of action, and broad coverage. So I've cried this morning.....im still so scared.... She saw the videos this morning and said Penny is still a very sick bird. But she is very pleased with eating, flying, and not wanting to go back to cage. .

While writing this, Penny finally came down from fridge abd flew to my shoulder. Love is important medicine too. She is puffed and scuint eyed, or sleeping on my shoulder. We will have some love time, it has been 2 days , before I put back by heat.

Here is my baby Penny, being checked on by her freind Cloudy.

Oh no. I hope she will be okay. This is reminding me of our struggle with Milo, where you are trying everything. Your vet seems sweet. Is she certified to see birds? We wish we had taken Milo to a bird specialist in birdie ER, that our vet knew about and did not refer us to.....we found out later. I will send healing thoughts and prayers your way. I know that feeling. You just want them to get better!!!!! You guys have all helped me. I am thinking of you!!!!

Oh, bless that vet of yours! Awesome to find one that is that much involved to call and check. Little Penny is in the best hands possible, I have no doubt.

Azithromycin is a good drug, and very commonly prescribed for humans. Some would say over prescribed, but that's another debate. It's long acting for us, so a 5 day course continues in our system for 10 days, working its magic. No idea how birds metabolize it, but probably at least similar, which explains the every other day dosing.

More prayers and positive thoughts heading your way my friend. Penny couldn't ask for better care.

Thank you. My vet is over qualified, and yes certified. An incredibly intelligent, driven, and compassionate person. I have complete faith and respect for her.

Its just that Penny is very ill, either hiding it till we git to this point, or acutely getting ill from something potent....

She is weak, her wings are dropping at rest, as well as puffed....
All prayers are wanted.

I need tempting food ideas...

My seed junkie isn't eating her seeds or pellets, or millit. She is loosing weight.

I've gotten her to eat tiny amount if pasta, egg, oatmeal, and peas, will try rice with veggies in a little while

Alex pretty much never turns down cooked sweet potato.

Sending prayers and love. Poor Penny

Don't know if this idea is good or bad, but, could you try making a little seed-porridge from her seeds for her?

Oatmeal, baby food puree (non fortified, no salt, careful with too much citric acid), low sodium saltine in a pinch, cooked apple, cooked sweet potato, non- fortified pasta---which is harder to find..., scrambled eggs (no salt), pumpkin puree (check contents), mashed cauliflower maybe??? (would have to research more on that one)....Mashed fruit, wasa crackers...still thinking...think about steaming fruit/veg and mashing...My bird LOVES natural nut butter, but caution should be used, as it may contain high salt/fat etc if you get the wrong kind...maybe mixing some safe nut butter with something like fruit to prevent choking etc. ..you know how dry it can be...cooked rice (rinsed before cooking, no salt)..will keep thinking..OH- QUINOA (also rinsed)..You could also try getting unsalted nuts and mashing them and adding some water to make a sort of mush.

Sending positive vibes for Penny and you - apple and sweet potato or squash is always coveted food in my crew. Applesauce is another thing that mine love (organic/unsweetened version). Maybe baby food?

C'mon Penny, keep fighting, beautiful girl! Best wishes and positive thoughts heading your way. So sorry you are still going through this, Laura, i wish i was there to help!
