So I am thinking of getting a tag sometime and I am trying to find a good diet for them. I have heard they should have Harrison's high potency, but the main ingredient is sunflower seeds. I was wondering if there was a different pellet they could have.
What brand/kind do you guys use?

Where do you have the information from that main ingredient is sunflower?

I feed my parrots Harrison's and Dr. Mac's Organic Origins. Harrison's information is readily available. Here is some information about Dr. Mac's:

Dr. Mac's is made from certified organic ingredients and free from genetic modification.

Here is the ingredients list from the Dr. Mac's Organic Origins Medium Parrot Maintenance bag:
Grains (corn, rice, oat groats, spelt, malt), seeds (millet, safflower, sunflower, linseed), nuts (peanuts), soy (flour, protein isolate, lecithin), calcium carbonate, yeast, spirulina, vitamins/minerals, betaine, bentonite clay, kelp meal, enzymes, yucca

Here is the nutritional analysis panel:
Crude Protein 16%; Crude Fat 8%; Calcium 0.6%; Vitamin D3 330 ICU/kg; less than 80mg/kg available iron

from what i hear, harrison's is best for greys. since i can't get my hands on harrison's in
this country, i just use the next best thing; zupreem natural.

My vet suggested Harrisons for the grey's needs. Yes, ground sunflower seeds. I called the company about that to find out why. I was told they enrich the pellets with so many vitamins and the sunflower seeds make it more tasty. Harrison's has the highest fat content but they are still the best, at least they have been for my bird.

fat isn't a bad thing if balanced out with other nutrients. if you were feeding your birds
only sunflower seeds (like many undereducated idiots in my country).. then that's a
problem.

sigh. i almost snapped at this retard once that thought he knows it all and was saying
"sunflower seeds are the maaaain source of food for parrots."

I was feeding Roudybush but have switched over to Harrison's. I got the coarse but I think alot of it was getting wasted until I broke it up. I think I will look into getting the fine as long as it's not too fine. Jasper is liking it, Tico hasn't had it yet, he's still eating Roudybush.

I feed my grey Pretty Bird African special. That is what the breeder has been feeding for a long time and has had no issues.

Have heard many times over, that Harrison's is best for a Grey.
Here in South Africa I feed Mishka AV PLUS - which us supposed to be equivalent to Harrison's.

Joeyx you mentioned if you were feeding your birds only sunflower seeds
(like many undereducated idiots in my country)

There are many many people here, that still continue feeding them sunflower seeds, one reason being they are cheaper than pellets.
Best I keep quiet....

it's got nothing to do with the price. they think parrots just need sunflower seeds. period.

We must remember that people are people and we all come from different walks of life and have learned in many different ways. The best thing we can do is educate them while we continue to educate ourselves. We must be cautious about our language because as soon as we directly offend the less informed, they will stop listening. I'm sure there are many here in the forum that are not feeding their birds as well as they should but with time, training and mare information hopefully they will.
