Parakeet Beak/Face problem

A few days ago I noticed that my bird has this strange malformation near his beak. I do not know what it is, so I decided to post some pictures here hoping that someone might tell what the problem is and what should I use. Thank you very much!

You should contact a certified avian vet immediately! That does not look like something that can be diagnosed and fixed without one. Poor baby!

Your poor little guy is a female . The best advice we can give you, is to see a qualified avian vet for diagnosis, correct treatment, and details of the treatment. Sorry, I know you were not looking to hear that but that is the truth. All the best.

That looks like scaly face to me, I am no professional but I’ve seen plenty of it in my time. It’s hyper contagious, I once had a male spread it to my whole flock - but it can be treated.

As I said though, not professional, so take your little one to an avian vet ASAP!!

If it’s scaly face mites, and they’re that bad on the face, I’ve never seen it not also all over the beak and cere too. It doesn’t look typical, but you’ve probably seen more sf cases than me.

At any rate OP needs to get to the vet ASAP!

Yep, that's absolutely a BAD case of scaly-face mites, and it has to have been there for a while to get that bad.

The only way to help your bird is to get him to an Avian Vet, or any vet if you don't have access to a Certified Avian Vet, as without proper prescription medication, this will keep getting worse and worse, and will take over his beak and face.

Scaly-face mites can quickly cause permanent beak and facial deformities, so it's vital that you get your bird to a vet immediately. It's not too difficult to treat, and any vet can consult with an avian vet over the phone on what medications to prescribe to treat it. Right now your bird has a pretty bad case, but it's not yet taken over his beak or cause deformity, so now is the time you must get him to a vet before it happens. if you Google this condition you'll see the horror that these things cause...


ALSO, IN ADDITION TO IMMEDIATE VET CARE AND PRESCRIPTION MEDS, YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST KEEP ANY AND ALL OTHER BIRDS IN A DIFFERENT ROOM THAN THIS BIRD, AND THIS BIRD'S CAGE AND EVERYTHING INSIDE IT, ON IT, TOUCHING IT, NEEDS TO BE SOAKED IN A MIX OF BOILING HOT WATER AND BLEACH, THEN RINSED AND DRIED. THEN YOU'LL HAVE TO DO THIS AGAIN ONCE YOUR BIRD IS PUT ON THE PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION, AND THEN AGAIN AFTER HE'S DONE WITH IT, AS THE MITES WILL KEEP REINFESTING HIM OTHERWISE!
