Hi all! Charlie is having a sleep over at my parents for the week as were out of town last weekend and will be out of town again this weekend. We are taking this opportunity to do a little painting in our house that we've been planning for a bit. We purchased a low VOC paint which off-gasses much less than a normal paint but they obviously don't list safe parrot levels. I am wondering if any of you have painted with the low VOC paints and know how long we should wait before we bring Charlie back (the earliest would be Sunday regardless). The painting is in the living room where his cage is and the kitchen which is directly connected. I don't want our lovely new walls to cause him any problems! Thanks for any suggestions/experience!

I should move the bird away doring the painting and kepp him/shi out of the romm for about 2 days after painting

When I'm painting, I put them at the opposite part of the house and keep all the windows open in the room (and the room next to the painted one) wide open. Then after at least 24hrs, I'll consider moving them back in. :)

Thanks! That works great for us. Charlie is having a great time at his week-long "sleep over".

HI! Just wanted to let you know that we just got done painting our living/dining room area (this is where Rios cage is) I put him in his cage outside all day and left all the windows open (with the AC or at least the ac fan running all the time) and put him in the spare room at night with the door closed and window open and when all the painting was done he just spent the next day outside then everything back to normal! He did just fine! Now....Im not saying what I did was right, or appropriate, some people may tell you to not bring him back until a week later etc...Im just telling you what we did and everything worked out just fine! Glad your lil fid is having a great sleep over and you get to do a little house refreshing to boot! Good luck
