I got given millet from a friend who previously had a cockatiel. The packet says BEST BEFORE: 22 of December 2022. Is it still okay to feed to my pet bird or should i just feed it to the wild birds? I've tried to look it up but it says "It is not safe to feed you bird expired food". I'm a bit unsure what to do :cautious::rolleyes:

Personally, I would use it unless it doesn't look and smell fresh. Expiration dates for non-perishable foods are "best by" dates and are somewhat arbitrary. Others may disagree.

Since millet, as with seed in general, degrades with time and/or improper storage, use by dates should be considered. If its states sell by, commonly those products have another six months, if stored properly.

Great gift for the wild birds.
