I keep in contact with Yuki's breeder. She told me that she had some things she wanted to give me (bird related- some wooden toys, bird food etc.) She said she would post it to me, but I said I would go see her as we had to go to her town anyways to pick some things up for my Mum(Some toys, things for her childcare centre). It was a 5hour drive.
My Mum dropped me off at the breeders place while she went to get some things. Anyways she gave me the things and asked me if I wanted to go and see her aviary. So I said sure why not! : D

Anyways she has been telling me about a wee conure who fell out of the nest when he was a baby. He survived but he hurt his leg and wing. He broke his leg. The breeder took care of all the vet bills etc. Now he has healed up but he can't walk/climb/fly properly. When he flies he crashes into everything. He cannot really fly but glide. He is a very slow walker and is very clumsy. He also has trouble climbing, he is slow and sometimes he falls.
Well my breeder was telling me how some guy came to see her wanting to buy this boy, even though she said she wanted him to be a pet not a breeder. Well this guy said he wanted him for a breeder and that he will be fine with his condition and that he can still can breed. She told him to leave.

Well my Mum came back. Her and I saw this wee conure and we felt so sorry for this boy. He was in a separate cage. He melted our heart. He had shattered tail feathers and I felt so sorry as he kept hurting himself. He was parent raised but he was handled a bit when he broke his leg. Now his feet goes inwards, the breeder called it pigeon feet.

So what happened next? We decided to take him home.
Ive had him for about a week and a half and he had a vet check when I got him and he got the all clear.

I was wondering what type of cage would be good for him? He will be out of his cage most of the time. : D

Also he needs a NAME!

He is just too adorable! He melt my heart too! :p I almost cried about the story, poor little boy. At lease he have a awesome owner! :)

I would recommend the small animal/cat/bird cage, it would be awesome if you can find it!

I'm thinking about a name for him, since we can't use Lucky! :D

Poor little guy...he looks so sweet, I'm glad he found a good home!

His walk is kind of how the galah walks in the article you posted. He stays very low to the ground but he can perch, it just takes him a very long time to do so and he has a very strong grip.

I just don't want him to fall down by a mistake, I saw him do it before and when he landed he rolled over and it looked very painful : (

Hi I had a disabled budgie once who could not stand or walk properly. He used to crash land onto things. It is marvellous how they adapt. A bird of this kind, needs the space more than height of the cage. You have to make sure food, water etc are easy to obtain.
That there is a soft landing in the bottom of the cage so if they do slip off a perch they are not going to injure themselves more. They are well worth the challenge and patience needed to understand the special requirements. Obviously you need to also be aware they are more vulnerable than a fully able bodied flighted bird. A bird like this should never be subjected to the stress of breeding !
Good luck with him hope it all goes well keep us all updated on his progress.

Thank you and I was also thinking the same thing. Here in New Zealand we don't have a wide range of bird related things. If we wanted something that would be perfect, I would have to import it. And importing a cage would cost A LOT. I don't mind but it means he would have to wait longer till he can get his own special cage. Atm he is staying in a carrier. It's like a small cage but it's not tall. So I thought that would be better than the spare cage I have which is very TALL.

I was thinking that this would be the perfect cage for him, it is the best I can find.

And I know, how could someone think he would be a good breeder! D:

yes the cage does look good as it has lots of floor space ideal if you manage to flop around alot.

That cage looks like it might work out great for you, and the price is way better than a full on small parrot cage too. How bad is his leg? Do you think his leg movement will improve over time?

He's so, so cute! What a good little hanger, lol. Names are very tough but it'll come to you. We are bringing home a baby Sun Conure in a few days and are having trouble with names as well.

Sweet, I think I will go with that cage then : D

Just by seeing how he is now, I don't think it will get any better. There might be a chance that it will but I think it wont. He may learn how to get around faster but that's probably the only thing I think might get better.

Haha, he just loves hanging upside down. But I do make sure I have something below him just in case. I don't really want him to fall :D Names are just too tough. It's going to take me forever to pick one.
