As I posted a couple of weeks ago, we lost our eclectus Parrot due to sudden death. Sunday we adopted a beautiful blue wing macaw.

He has had a hard couple of years. His original owner passed away, and he went to a rescue when no family members wanted him. He spent a few months in a rescue, and then went to a foster home. Seven months in a foster home, they decided to get a divorce and no longer wanted him. Back to the rescue he went.

As I’m sure you can imagine, this was very stressful for him. He started plucking and is missing a lot of his undercarriage feathers. When my wife and I heard his story, and met him for the first time, we just knew we had to give him a better life.

We’ve only had him for two days and he’s already taken into me. he’s talking to me nonstop, he steps up with no hesitation. And really seems to want our attention. I think this is going to be an amazing fit, and addition to our family.

When your heart knows it's right, it's right. 💖 Congratulations and thank you for taking in this gorgeous baby, he has most certainly hit the rehome jackpot with you!! What's his name, btw?

Parrot Hope Rescue has a bunch of awesome birds. And a very reputable rescue in NE Ohio.

I’m sorry you lost your Ekkie. I have a male that I adore. I bring him everywhere. He’s calm, and will just sit & stay on my shoulder for hours. I can’t imagine how heartbroken you are losing an Ekkie.

Samson is so cute! I’m sure you are really excited about him. I’ve always wanted a macaw but I do fear that Nico won’t take well to another addition as he wants to be with me all of the time. Not to mention he’d probably try to mate with it. I can’t imagine that would end well.

You’ll have to share the differences in personalities between macaws and Ekkie’s. I’ve only worked with macaws in short term. I’m mentally curious.

How exciting! I still remember with crystal clarity the day I got my macaw—almost 50 years ago! Back then virtually all macaws came from the wild. My wild bird was eating banana out of the palm of my hand on the very first day! In almost 50 years, he has never tried to bite me or any member of the family. He is not a fan of his avian vet when she has to bundle him in a towel to dremel his nails, but he is justified. 😜 Enjoy your bird! May he give you many decades of joy as mine has.
