Hey everyone,

Check out our latest rescue (hoping it attached), our 2 year old parakeet. We say two very loosely as the home we rescued him from was just awful and not sure how much faith we have in what they told us.

He wasn't hand tame at all when we rescued him, and would shy away from any human contact.

Bringing him into our house, where we interact with all our birds daily, has brought him on leaps and bounds.

Last night was our first time holding him.... 😍😍😍😍:green2:

He's just such a lovely wee guy. It's just a small baby step closer to him trusting us. We're happy to take it as slowly as required.

Congrats - sounds like trust is building :)

I am actually genuinely so shocked at how many birdies need rescuing. Our grey and our conures that we rehomed weren't so much of a rescue, just a change of owner due to health concerns. but this little guy, our parakeet, was entirely a rescue. He was bought for a child's birthday on a whim, and then didn't like that he would nip at her fingers when learning. The mum was scared of birds, so wouldn't let him out the cage, they had a cat who if was in the same room as the bird, would climb it's cage. So the bird was locked away in a room with little to no interaction!! When we went to collect him, I was warned, he's vicious, you might not want to put your hand in his cage.

Needless to say, he's now in our living room, with four other birds for company when we aren't around, and of course us when we are home. He's such a happy wee soul and just loves having people to talk to. :) And when we let him out of his cage, he flies and flies and flies!!! Hardly sits at peace. It's like he's scared he's going to lose it all again. My heart breaks for him, honestly. but he'll come to realise our love is unconditional and we'll keep coming back, keep chatting to him, and keep letting him out and about to fly. :D
