So we had been thinking for a while and decided to give it a try and make a perch for the living room, since Chuy always wants to be in his cage.
We went out looking for some branches and I found this nice Y shaped branch from what we think was from a cherry tree, or eucalyptus tree. I trimmed it up, and cleaned it up in the shower.

Installed hooks, and some chains.

We are gonna try hanging it from the ceiling. If this doesn't work I'll mount it upright.

Wow that looks a great idea. How do you pronounce your little guys name?

He has come to investigate so that's good.

Update on your progress as you seem to say not quite there yet? More pics welcome!

Thanks for the replies...his name is pronounced chew ee.....lol

He seems to like it so far. I'm going to upgrade the hooks by getting some bigger ones that will need a nut to secure it.....this week we will add some toys.

More pics to come.

Be great to see you finished project. Don't forget to be careful which metal items you get and make sure they are bird safe?
:)

if so do you have a title for those so i can research?
is that the pope in the mask?

disabled and it is more less the type of wood i would be looking for like say the Manzinita
ain't got em in ohio, also the bamboo i can't find any around here as i can make some cool ladders and climbing toys.
so go be sarcastic elsewhere.

this post is why i don't come around much
and when i do i mostly read and keep my thoughts to myself.
guess that is the best way for me to visit.

later folks
that is so cool i went and found a place to get branches
site has all kinds
Natural Tree Branches Sale|20–60% Off|SaveOnCrafts

You no longer have trees in your part of the world?

I'm definitely going to check out that site. Some of those branches might be useful for me to split into smaller and larger for my different sized birds, so it might work out to be a pretty decent deal.

I also can't drive so it's so much easier to order online. I just need to find some of the hardware!

THe hardware I buy is either from Home Depot or Busy Beaver ( think that may only be local though) I get Hanger bolts, split lock washers, and some wing nuts. always works perfect!

Lowe’s carries a good selection of ss hardware. Don’t use split washers anywhere your fids can reach. Can easily loose a toe!

That looks nice. Hopefully she uses all the real estate you've given her. I've tried a number of different "play gym" configurations and Nike always just sits at the highest point. Now that she's flying, lampshades are her favorite place to perch.

That's a nice perch. If you wanted to add a spot to hang toys, you could always string some rope/chain between the two anchor points higher up, too.

Can't do one of these yet since I'm renting. But once I'm in my own place I have an elaborate hanging gym setup in mind!
