Ouch!

My Illiger's macaw Diego was a pistol. Pure macaw. He would nip when displeased but you would really have to push him. What hurt was when he would peck you. Instead of biting he would peck which means knocking that hard black beak against your hand. I have very small hands so if Diego pecked on my knuckle it hurt. When he pecked it made this weird hollow sound he LOVED. Diego was kind of a weird parrot. He also use ask people to kiss him and when they did he would slip his tongue between their lips quicker than you could pull away then laugh in my voice.

Mihijo my noble macaw never bit. Ever. He had the most stable temperament I ever saw in a parrot. This made him wonderful for public speaking and work with quiet respectful children.

I find the small beaks of the smaller birds to be more painful of a bite than any large parrot.

I've only had Atlas for a month now and he's broken my skin once but there was no blood. It was my fault really. Like Wendy said, I hope to never be able to answer your question! XD

Our Josie hasn't seriously bitten anyone...thank goodness. My bf was seriously against me adopting her because when he was a cop, his first animal call was a macaw who was flipping out. When he arrived at the house, the owner was covered in blood. He tried to get the bird by using a broom (he was never around birds before this incident and had no idea what he was doing) and the bird snapped the broom handle. As it turns out, the owner of the macaw recieved 10 stitches and did not get the macaw back because the reason it went off the deep end was because he kicked it across the room. Serves him right!

Now that Josie has been with us for almost 6 months, he won't even consider not having her. We are like new parents with a baby...we play with her all the time and she will go to just about anyone.

:blue:

I'm so glad that bird was taken out of there, he deserved that bite! i heard of hyacinths cracking coconuts ! it sounds like Josie is very loved :)
