GW Macaw, CAG, eclectus (Kiwi- RIP)
As our GW macaw got a bigger cage, we thought it was a good idea to also give a roomier cage to our CAG. Easier said than done. Although there was absolutely no issues with our macaw going to her new cage, our CAG made a total fit and began thrashing around in panick. Prior to switching cages, we had placed the “new” cage next to his own cage for a few days. But that didn’t help.
I gave up and when I reached inside the cage to make him step up on my finger to put him back in his older cage...well, let’s say he didn’t waste a minute to let me know how mad he was and chomped hard and got a lock on my thumb ...screeching furiously! “Never try to put me in that new cage again, understand???!!” - was the message. He’s been holding a grudge ever since this morning, even refusing to take some of his favorite treats!
Now, that’s a mad parrot! LoL!!!!

I’d really like to switch him to the larger cage but I’ll give it a few more weeks and see how he reacts then...

OOPS! I'm sure he didn't mean it. :54: Ok, ok...so maybe he did.

Greys can be a whole lot more sensitive to changes than big macs, unfortunately. Before you put your Grey in the bigger cage, did you add all his favorite things? Did you try arranging it the same way as his old cage? Is the bigger cage a totally different design/color?

Greys can be funny about new things. Mine hated certain toys and needed time to get used to others.
Maybe let him see his new cage do awhile and gradually move his things over to it. Ask him to perch on the door. Add HIS perches.
Be patient.

Yes, I took extra care of including his favourite toys and perches on the same sides and height as before...except for a new rope perch at the other end of the cage. The cage is a darker colour though...

He is still in a bad mood and looks at me funny...in a resentful kind of way.
We’ll let the day go by and leave him be for the rest of the day. Hopefully tomorrow we’ll patch up our relationship! :)

Just switch "a few days" to a few weeks.

Make sure the cage is right next to his old one. When he is out, let him play on top of his cage, and eventually he may get interested and go on top of the other one.

Just takes time.
