Parrots
Birdie (BFA), Cloud (Lovebird)
sigh.

so today i was walking along the (very, very bad) bird market trying to find a
random cage that might be good for Cloud.... then came across two baby gcc's
scared outta their lives, sitting in a small container in the open.. being sold as
if they were on a hotdog stand. or somethin.

well i don't really want to get into how bad the infamous bird market is in this
damn country, but yeah.... i wanted to get one at least. i barely see conures
around anymore, and baby conures (maybe a month old) are a very rare find,
but i just don't have the time and space right now. wish i did.

sigh.

sorry, just a random vent. ;(

Aww , I'm sorry Joey , it must have been so tough to walk away :(

very. ;((

Just curious, Joey, are you originally from Kuwait? Because your English is impeccable.

yes i'm from kuwait. been in a british school from year 1 to sixth form, and i
count english as my first language. not so great with arabic but i do speak it
normally as a local, whenever i need to. also not very much into the culture
and people here. my life's goal is to live somewhere else, but that's almost
impossible for me at the moment. ;\

Well, I'd welcome you as a neighbor, although if you ever move to the US, you might pick a state with better weather and job opportunities than Ohio:)

:( That's so sad! I'm not sure I would have the strength to even go there, let alone walk away without a new bird every time

im so sorry to hear that, maybe another good bird owner like you found them , its possible?

could you have tipped them into your pocket as you walked by..

I know bad, bad, bad...

... I thought the same thing. "Oh whoops! How'd you get in my purse?!"

Joey, your heart is in the right place. But, one thing we all learn, and it is a sad & hard lesson, is that we cannot save them all. I have helped dozens of birds in my life, but, I know that there were many more that I could not. And have said many times, "omg, if only...".

let's see....... i love cold weather (not tooooo much rain or snow) and could
probably settle for whatever job. i can also do my usual freelance designing
on the side anyway. but yeh, i'd love to be around more 'proper' bird lovers!

trust me, you'd buy every single bird there.... sigh...

i reaally doubt that. if only you knew how the majority here treat animals.
i'm ashamed of my own family too who give me a hard time with my fids,
but i still manage to take care of them and keep them happy.

that sounds like a good idea. ;p

thanks for that. i totally agree. but it hurts even more if you know there's a
slight chance you'd be able to save a bird but missed it. ;(

Ohio has quite a temperature range. It can get very cold and it can get very hot. It does have 4 seasons though, and it's on one of the Great Lakes if you like water activities. It is the 7th most populated state, so even though people from New York City make fun of it ans say it's nothing but corn fields, it really isn't that bad, lol! It does have some cool attractions like The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Pro Football Hall of Fame, Cedar Point (huge amusement park), The American Motorcyclist's Association Museum and a world reknowned medical facility in the Cleveland Clinic

Ok, enough about Ohio. It is not great but it is not awful. The best weather is in California, but it's expensive to live there.

We want to help them all , it's in our blood. We are a very special breed of people :)
If we took in every bird we saw , inevitably some will suffer because of lack of attention and care they need . I feel we have in a whole made a huge difference in the pet population.
Think of the ones we did save . It has meant the world to them .

I'll be honest, I don't read craigslist ads because I was getting obsessed about birds and other animals who need good homes and health care. And I know 3 birds is plenty to give them the attention they want and need.

Poor things! Theres a pet shop in the mall near where I live that sticks parrots in a small box-like cage with one toy and seed, and I don't think they ever clean the cages. It makes me soooooo mad!

The thing that absolutely broke my heart is one of my coworkers heard me and another lady chatting about our birds (She has a cocatiel) and my coworker pipes up with "I have a sun conure. Its like 15 years old and refuses to die. We've been feeding it froot loops for the past 2 years. All it does is sit there and scream." I was in shock.

Even only having one bird, though, I knew I couldn't even offer to take the bird from her (it was obvious she didn't want it at all) because I live in an apartment, and Tori already takes the majority of my attention. :( It feels awful when you know theres a birdy out there that needs your help, but you can't do anything about it.

If you do put a warning in the title so I don't look :-(

One of my coworkers told me about one of his friends trying to kill his macaw by putting it in a plastic bag and attaching it to the car exhaust. Everyone was laughing about it except me. I said I would take the bird, but they wouldn't give it to me. Ok, it's ok for you to torture it and try to kill it, but not to give it to someone who would take care of it:mad:

I made the mistake of looking on Craigslist yesterday. Now I remember why I don't go there; I counted 4 Goffin's, 2 CAG's, 6 Parakeets/Budgies, 2 Quakers, 4 Tiels, and a U2, just in the last 3 days. Not to mention the 4 bearded dragons and about 5 snakes, 3 Russian tortoises.

That's not even the cats, dogs and numerous other furry people :(

I just can't imagine someone doing that to a Macaw, or complaining that a Sun wont die at 15 years when they live an average of 30!!! People's ignorance infuriates me >:-(

So you're obviously not alone Joey. Just take extra care of your babies when you start to think about it all. It's what I do.
