Sunny South Africa !!!
Parrots
African "Grey"
"Mishka"
Male
7 Years old
Ok so today I went back to the wholesale shop, to buy Mishka a mirror.
This is the same shop where I saw the beautiful Macaw "Mishko".
Mishko has been adopted, I have been given permission to visit him. I will go in about a months time, let him settle down.

In the same shop (it seems like they are now starting to sell birds) I saw for the first time in my life an Umbrella Cockatoo.... only ever seen pictures........ He was absolutely gorgeous, looked so healthy and happy. He is 3 years old. Yeah yeah I fell in love again LoL. BUT he reminded me of my youngest Steven....... Steven gives me certain looks, "teasing looks" the bird looked at me exactly the same. I began to laugh,
The bird came face to face, looked at me through the bars, I said hello big boy, he replied "hello mommy" I just smiled at him, dumbfounded.
The owner came towards us and said I heard that, the bird turned towards him and said "leave mommy alone" We all cracked up laughing.
I said to the bird give me a kiss please, he made the most beautiful kissing sounds. :D

The owner is convinced I was a bird in my previous life, saying he has never seeing birds respond to a human so quickly.
I think birds sense a gentle trusting presence when a bird lover is around.:63:

They are very pretty birds. Also they are a handful. Especially the . I love the moluccans. way they want to be held and loved over. Too big for this lady though. Antionette I am going to call you Bird Woman.

I've actually suspected that for a while. :p

It's amazing how some people think parrots don't have facial expressions. Jade has the most flirty look some times and one can almost see Max roll his eyes at me.

SB your Avatar picture of Rosie is to beautiful. I must seriously think of flying you to South Africa, to take some awesome pic's of Mishka. :D

So stupid of me, I should have taken some pic's of the bird with my cell phone. If he is still there next week, I will.

I guess Bird Woman is better than being called the Nut Lady
(re: my business) LoL :63:

Wow Antoinette, you make feathered friends everywhere you go! :D
One of these days, you're going to end up taking in another bird. I just know it! ;)

Such sweet stories, thanks again for sharing.

Parrotqueen I wish I could have another bird, but in all honestly, I would not cope, nor have the time. Running a business from home, on my own, etc, it would be absolutely impossible. We live in an apartment, feel very safe and secure, no plans to move anytime soon.
Mishka takes up the majority of my time, she is a handful, like having a 2 year old child, 24/7. We have such a set routine, I am sure, if that was to change, problems with Mishka would occur.
I would never jeopardize Mishka's happiness, not even for another bird. ;)

What a responsible thing to say, Antoinette. You really take your bird ownership seriously. There aren't enough people in this world like that, you're very blessed. Mishka is also very blessed, to have such a caring mother.

Keep it up!

SB I quite like Aunty Ant (I think it was you who came up with that one too :D)

What a special gift you have Ant, Ceasar Milan of the bird world (sort of)

Today was the day !!!!!!!!! I went to "visit" Mishko the beautiful Macaw that had been adopted.
He is doing great, he has settled down so well. He was talking and chirping away. He became so excited when he heard my voice, he began to dance. Being put on a proper diet, he looks absolutely beautiful, and healthy.

I am so happy Mishko was given another chance of happiness, still wish I could have adopted him :(:( then again I would adopted all the birds worldwide

Antoinette, the Bird Woman.... doesn't sound too catchy, LOL. It's a good name though. I bet you'd have my birds swoon for you! LOL

That'a so good to hear. I was thinking about him when you were talking about Mishka being a Mishko. Sounds like he's landed on his feet :)

He definitely has landed on his feet, I reckon he thinks he is the leader of the flock there. " You Go Mishko " :22:

Crazy bird lady and mad parrot woman hmmm, they do have certain rings to them don't you think?
It's funny but only bird people understand the connection we have with birds, my name was derived from my own perception of how "non bird people" see me. You guys understand dontcha LOL

Seriously what a great guy Mishko seems and you certainly have a way with him Antoinette. He seems happy enough where he is but he doesn't forget you or your visits. What a shame you are unable to take him but you are doing the right thing for yourself, Mishka and Mishko, as someone else said - if only all pet owners were as responsible.
