Oh it just smells so darn good! I took a trip to the huge bird store that is about an hour from my house called Bird Paradise. They also have a website you can buy stuff from but it's more fun to go roam and get lost among the toys, food, and the birds! All of their bids are so friendly and come right up to the front of their cages... I spent most of my time talking to a wonderful little GCC who was just so very friendly. Even my mother (I talked her into coming this time) thought this little GCC was the cutest thing ever. "Oh you're so friendly!!!" (my Dusky HATES her with a passion so any bird that is slightly nice to her is the most "friendly" bird ever to her.) Anyway, this is what I brought home from the store. It smells so delicious and I just want to try it. I think the birds would fight me over it though.
I ended up picking up two new toys for Kayak because she destroyed one of her toys. She likes to chew up everything!
She loves blankets and anything really soft to nibble on so the little whale toy instantly became her new favorite. She loves straws so the other toy was great too. Nobody else got any new toys (I know... I'm a terrible birdy parent) because they haven't destroyed theirs/have enough I can switch them out every so often so its like they always have new toys.
Here's the collection of food I bought for my two conures. (the parakeets refuse to touch anything other than their regular food, spray millet, and oat groats.)
This is Kayak's FAVORITE thing to snack on and I don't feel bad giving it to her. It's got plenty of fruits, veggies, pellets!! and stuff for her to nibble on and it's got nuts and other tasty things she likes.
Dehydrated peas and carrots. Carlisle (my sun) is a pain to get to eat any veggies and stuff because he doesn't like "juicy" things. He likes the dried stuff. Kayak on the other hand loves everything that is sticky, juicy, and makes a HUGE mess. She also eats dehydrated stuff.
The top container is a spicy dehydrated veggie mix that both of them seemed to enjoy. Carlisle loves to eat dried peppers and anything spicy so this was one of his favorites. The middle container was a tropical fruit and veggie blend. It's really finely ground up and a little sticky but both of them enjoyed it. I opened the container for them to try it and had to practically pull them both away from it before they ate it all! The bottom container is little dried apple bits. Carlisle doesn't like them because they're sticky but Kayak enjoys eating them and getting sticky apple stuck to her beak.
The great thing about this place is they allow you to take home a little bit of the different foods to see if your bird likes it before you buy a big container full of it. I brought home dehydrated raspberries and kiwi. Kayak LOVED the raspberries. Carlisle not so much. I'm still working on getting the two of them to at least nibble at the kiwi.
For all the snacks and stuff I got them it didn't cost me too much. Not that I'm worried about the price as long as they eat it all.
Kayak and her tasty snack mixture
Carlisle found a hunk of papaya in Kayak's snack mixture and stole it and decided he was going to make a mess on my shoulder and in my hair.
Somebody was jealous I was taking pictures of things other than him. This is Spooky Burd. He's my friendly little talker. His most recently learned phrase is "here kitty kitty kitty!" (my mom teaches him things when I'm not home)
