Hello! It has been a while since I posted and there has been a LOT going on.

Last time I was here, I got a few suggestions on how to best handle moving Olly by car, a 2 hour trip...

So I ended up getting myself one of those typical square cocky cages, which would just fit in the back of my car.. I really wanted to give him as much space as possible to try and avoid making him feel too closed in. Knowing I would have a hard time getting him into this smaller cage, I decided to do that the night before. It's a good thing I did, too. It took about 4 hours, plus lots of fruit and a bit of imagination to get him to co-operate. I even got a video of him being really cheeky and playing hide and seek with us.

He spent the night in this smaller cage and seemed to be quite happy. I put his favorite concrete perch in for him and even gave him a couple of nuts as a treat.

When moving day came, he spent all morning out in the sunshine while the removalists did their thing. He seemed a little upset to see his usual cage being loaded into the back of the truck but forgot about it soon after the doors were closed. I loaded him carefully into the back of my car, covered him with a blanket and used more blankets to stop the cage moving or rattling around too much. Then off we went!

Now, I was expecting a lot of noise from Olly. I drove very carefully and even had a sign on my back window stating 'Pet on board - Please be patient!'. I had my radio playing softly and barely heard a peep out of him the whole trip! When he did make noise, it was chattering and chirping - It almost seemed like he ENJOYED the car ride! (He did this on the way home from the shop too!)

Once at the new house, he was reunited with his beloved home - Complete with new 'welcome home' toys ready to be destroyed.

Now he lives in my bedroom, where I spend most of my time. His cage is positioned right next to my desk, so he's very close whenever I'm using the computer. He is out of his cage for large chunks of every day and seems to imitate me a lot. When I eat, he eats. When I nap, he naps! It really is adorable.

I bought him another concrete perch a couple of days ago, salmon colored to match him! I positioned it on the outside of his cage, right by my shoulder when I'm at my desk, thinking it may help him to be even more comfortable around me.

Anyway, I didn't mean to write so much, so I will end this post before it gets too long!

PS- This is Olly being coaxed into his travel cage, and on moving day:

What a beauty! I'm glad he traveled well for you. I've traveled with birds several times and noticed the larger birds seem to do well. My parakeets did well, but my cockatiels had a tendency to have 'frights'. The Amazons usually chatted the entire way. And the Cockatoos I transported for a rescue really seemed to enjoy the sights as they zoomed down the road in their safety cage.
