Ollie McBudgie the Fluffinator
Ollie had his follow up appointment today. He is 80% better! He has 10 days of antibiotics for his water to finish him up. I am so lucky to live within range of such a great Avian vet. His special toe is due to a torn ligament  that happened at his last home. He must have caught his toe and no one noticed. He will be a little gimpy for the rest of his life. It makes me so sad that he went through that pain and no one noticed. But he's living the life now with lots of love and treats.

I'm so happy Ollie is better! As for his feet, he isn't in pain any m9re and they do fine with a normal feet. One of my budgies injured one of his back toes somehow at only 3 months old when he first joined the flock. I don't know how he did it but it swelled up, turned purple and was obviously painful. I was going to take him to the vet but the next day the toe literally off and he was fine! Another budgie, baby Joey, has deformed toes on both feet and has trouble gripping but she's fine, too.

You go, Ollie.
I mean, you already have the coolest name.
Maybe I should rename the Rb to Rickey McConure.
His full official name is Oliver Percival Archimedes McBudgie the First. He had a hard time in kindergarten. Rickey McConure sounds tough. Like giant radio on your shoulder tough.

Wow! Ollie's one lucky budgie to have his own rooftop garden! Catgrass (not catnip) would be good too. I would be cautious about him eating the soil. It could have fertilizer in it or he could become impacted. Cut pieces of hard plastic with stem holes and try to make soil shields to keep him out of there. Or hard cardboard circle shields.
If you grow grasses from millet or canary seed you can put a metal old or new shower drain over the soil and have the grass grow up through the holes.

You can also buy ready-made grass growing kits for this purpose on Amazon or other pet spurce.

Thank you! I can make some cardboard shields. It is organic potting soil so hopefully there are no pesticides...but you never know. Thankfully he's very shy of new things so hasn't investigated yet. I'm guessing he will steer clear for a good week or two. But he benefits from the O2 all the same. We just got home from being away a couple days (in town for his appointment) and he is so happy and chirpy. I think he feels well for the first time in a long while. The shower drain is such a good idea!
