There is something up with my Clifford.

Yesterday I was out trimming the hedges in the front yard and my boyfriend was sitting on the couch resting after mowing the back yard. Clifford screamed for the ENTIRE time I was outside. I could hear him through the closed door and over the hedge trimmer. About 30 mins after he started his 1 hour screaming fit Joe put his cover over him because, not only was it driving him nuts, but he was afraid he was going to scream himself to death. That did not stop him, he just kept on screaming.

This morning as soon as I walked out of the room, he started screaming again.

You see, he HATES Joe, He will do anything to attack him if he is in range. If Joe walks by Clifford flings himself full force agaist the cage bars, he will bite around a treat and get his fingers, and he will dive-bomb him even though his wings are clipped. We have tried everything to get Clifford to like him or at least to tolerate him.

Last night after watching Clifford do his courting dance he threw up on me. I told Joe that I think we can try me ignoring him and have Joe take care of him for a few days and see if that gets any results, but Clifford wont even let Joe put food in his bowl.

My poor boyfriend :-( It makes him so sad that Clifford hates him, and I try to tell him that its just the season and when it passes he may be a completley different bird. But I'm not so sure about that.

All I know it that his screaming is driving me insane. He was making such good progress, and now this is a giant step backwards. There are times that even if I'm in the room he will scream and nothing calms him down. I have been thinking about wheeling his cage into a quiet room when he starts that....But I have no idea what else to do....

That's why we have a bird room mainly for Java our U2. He screams often but not much now days when he sees me leave the room ignoring him when he screams. My two conures drove me up the walls before with the non-stop screaming that's why no more conures for me!

But I love him :-( I guess I'm going to have to make a bird room, Clifford will not step up from inside or on his cage, how will I get him out to come play on his stand in the living room :-( We will never see him if he is in the other room.

Have you tried perch training? So he can step up to a perch if he doesn't trust hands yet. Over time you can get him to do hands. Clicker training would be good as well!!!

Thats what baby Bongo's breeder told me today. Clicker train him. He has a cockatoo that screams sometimes and will stop with that clicker.....Ill go get one after work today and try it.
But yes, i have tried perch training and it doesnt work either. If he is out of his cage he will step up just fine.

Don't forget to get some treats if your training with a clicker!!! :)

Sounds like he has picked you as his mate and Joe is co mpettion. the screaming is more than likely part wanting to be with you non stop and part fustration. Try to discourage as much breeding behavour as possible. This behavour is more than likely due to hormones, whether hes just doing this seasonal or hes maturing, the extremes of what your describing seem to me like it will be temporary. As long as this behavour isnt encouraged of course.

I think so, too. Is is possible to take him outside with you while you work in the yard?

Otherwise all I can say is earplugs for Joe and several closed doors between him and Clifford if he wants to nap:)

I take him outside, but he screams worse out there. or he clings to the cage in fright. I dont want him to be scared so we are taking baby steps to the outdoors.

Have you figured out how to stop the screaming yet? I have an Eclectus that screams everytime I leave the room too & it's driving my husband nuts. :31: I know it's not mating behavior. He's only 6 months old.
